AOCS has changed!
Report back on the Special Gathering/AGM held on 26th May 2021.
This special gathering was arranged for members to:
Vote on becoming a professional body and a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLbG), to close the current Trade Association, allowing the board to select a suitable new bank account, to transfer the funds/assets into the new company.
Elect Chair-Elect and Treasurer; announce appointment of new accountancy to oversee set up of CLbG.
Show interest in vacant board member and volunteer roles.
After an overview presentation and discussion of what is involved in making this change, members voted live on Zoom and via Survey Monkey. The results were unanimous to accept the proposals above, with 100% support and one abstention in Survey Monkey. We have received a clear mandate from our members to go forward with this new framework. Thank you. The polls are now closed.
The Transition Team responsible for guiding the new company into life will now work with the appointed company secretary to register the company as quickly as possible. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please look first at our special webpage: and email us.
This does not impact your membership directly, apart from sharing with other members a liability limited to £1 should the association close and have debts (fyi we retain a contingency fund to cover current expenses incurred). We hope that you find this small liability acceptable (do contact us if you don’t) in order to move towards a better framework for the future.
Whilst the gathering was not recorded the minutes of the meeting are available to view here. We will update you again once the new company has been successfully registered and the transition completed.
During the gathering special thanks and appreciation were made to Jo Birch and Julia Menaul for their much valued recent contributions to the board and for the range of innovations they brought to AoCS. Thanks was also given to Yvette Elcock for her excellent work on communications and social media, within the Discovery Group, and Co-Supervision Space where she continues to support Michelle Lucas.
Lastly, Peter and Lorenza outlined both board member and volunteer roles that are needed to be filled. A number of nominations have been received – but there is still time to add your specialist skills and experience - there will be a pause while we put the key elements in place. We will be in contact with all our volunteers for dates at the end of June/early July, when we’ll meet to discuss and allocate roles, following which we can move forward at pace!
Meanwhile, do tell us what roles you may be interested in supporting (these can be a role-share).
Feedback at the end of the gathering included:
I would like to applaud the existing board and Stephen for today - really well thought through and presented.
Well done to everyone involved in today. Thank you to those who have led the organisation thus far and best of luck to Lorenza, Jenny and Co in the future.
Excellent to be with everyone this morning and witness the new direction and look forward to contributing to continued success. Thank you.
