AoCS October News Update 2021

COACHING AT WORK: ROUNDTABLE ON RACISM IN COACHING

The first professional body Roundtable on Racism in Coaching was held on 15th September, hosted by Coaching at Work.

Coaching at Work hosted representatives from eight professional coaching bodies who came together for the first time at a roundtable on the topic of racism in coaching.

The representatives pledged their commitment to collectively “stand against racism” and committed to ongoing dialogue to explore how best to contribute and collaborate including around harvesting learning and sharing best practice. All attending agreed that “we stand against racism” but that this stance needs to be more than mere ‘tokenism.’ There was agreement to continue exploring together, with the date for the next roundtable to be agreed shortly.

Felicia Lauw was our representative on this round table and we thank her for participating on our behalf.

"All the participating professional bodies are committed to further exploration and work on this issue of racism and lack of equity in coaching.
In AoCS, we are committed to hold reflective spaces to dialogue and reflect together as a community of coaching supervisors and explore and learn this subject and begin to move this agenda forward together and in our respective practices."

We continue to be interested to hear from our members on this subject and please do complete our brief Diversity and Inclusion Poll.  You can also read the full press release on the AoCS website here.

Statement of intent shared by Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision (APECS); Association for Coaching (AC Global & UK); Association of Coaching Supervisors (AoCS); British Psychology Society Division of Coaching Psychology (BPS DoCP); Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA); European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC UK); International Coaching Federation (ICF Global & UK); International Society for Coaching Psychology (ISCP).

AOCS Regional & Country Coordinators Creative Collaboration

Thank you to all our volunteers for their ongoing promotion of supervision in their regions and for letting people know about our Association.

We welcome new volunteers, and we are actively looking for members who could give us a few hours a month on:
  • Communications, PR and Social Media  - helping our members and potential members hear what’s occurring so they can get involved and feel the value.
  • Global volunteer coordination – as Paula Wilson did this time, facilitating the work of our volunteer network by co-ordinating efforts and supporting their work.
Here is Paula's feedback:
"Many of our regional and Country Coordinators met on line recently to share their thoughts and experiences on how they are ‘promoting, engaging and developing’ supervision in their geographies. We were all delighted to connect with each other and ‘join hands’ in this capacity.

Some of the outcomes and suggestions in eluding efforts to promote supervision and encourage ‘uptake’, opportunities to share ‘collateral’ and resources more, how social media may support our efforts, and also how we might focus on our own development. Thank you again to everyone for their participation - we will have more of these sessions across the year."
If you would like to get involved, do contact Lorenza Clifford.

The next Co-Supervision Space session with Michelle Lucas and Yvette Elcock is on 5th November 2021 from 13.00-15.00 GMT/UK time. This session will concentrate on Transpersonal Approach. Come and take the opportunity to practice existing or new approaches to coaching supervision in a great learning community.
