Ditto Families,

Plans are starting up for construction to complete the 2014 bond. Ditto will have a new parking lot on the north side of the building and a completely new roof. More information to come soon. We anticipate the roof will start earlier than expected in late February or early March. It’s very exciting!

Thank you for your support!

Box Tops News
Box Tops is sponsoring another sweepstakes. If everyone in our school went to this link right now and entered even once, that would give Ditto 700 entries to win bonus Box Tops worth $3000 for our school and 3000 Paper Mate pens! Please visit
https://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/sweepstakes/2019/return to enter. You may enter daily between now and January 31, 2019. No phone number is required to enter (name/mailing address only).

Keep collecting those Box Tops! All Box Tops turned in between now and February 15th (end of the grading period) will count toward the 4th six weeks contest.

Reminders for collecting:
*Please do not use staples. Use glue or tape to attach Box Tops to collection pages.
*Check expiration date because expired Box Tops do not count
*Please trim into neat rectangles if possible, but be careful clipping so that you don't cut the expiration date or the BOLD letters in the upper left hand corner of the Box Top.
*You can put up to 50 Box Tops in one zip lock bag (label with student name/grade/teacher/# of Box Tops) or use the sheets provided to collect 25 per page
*Make SURE your student info (name/grade/teacher) is on the sheet or written on (or on a note inside) the ziploc bag if they wish to be considered for prizes!

They are great resources that students can do at home, as well.

In reading, we are working on expository text with a focus on drawing conclusions.

In science, we are learning about the sun, moon, and stars. In social studies, we are continuing to learn about economics.

Updates coming next week!

Now is the time to mark your calendars for the STAAR TEST DATES!! Please try not to schedule any appointments on the testing days.  Math STAAR is April 9th, Reading is April 10th, and the Science STAAR is May 15th. The Math benchmark test is Tuesday, February 12th, Reading benching is Wednesday, February 13th, and the Science benchmark test is March 21st.

The 5th grade Valentine's Day party is Thursday, February 14th from 2:45 - 3:30. A class list was sent home in the planners. Please contact your child's teacher if you need another copy. We ask that each student pass out Valentines to everyone in their homeroom class. Students will be allowed to pass out Valentine's to all five fifth grade classes towards the end of the party. Each child will need to bring a Valentine's box or some container for all keep all their Valentine's they will receive from their classmates.

Donations needed: Kleenex, flashlights, & sugar cubes.

Hello from the 6th grade team!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! On Thursday, February 14th, students will exchange valentines with the students in their homeroom classes. We ask that each child please bring enough valentines to pass out to everyone in that class. Class lists will be sent home this week. Students are also encouraged to decorate a shoe box to serve as the box they receive these gifts in. Prizes will be given for the best, most creative boxes!

We are gearing up for the Ditto Dance on February 8th, and we are hoping you will be able to help us. PTA is asking for 6th grade families to donate Little Debbie snacks in exchange for class dojos or points on their points cards. You can deliver them to any 6th grade teacher, thank you in advance for your contributions!

Due to such a successful Point's Day in December, our Point's Day supplies are nearly depleted! We would love your donations of snack items, trinkets, pencils, water and juice, and anything else you would like to donate to continue our Point's Day success. If you have any questions, email any of the sixth grade teachers.

During the 4th six weeks, students are working on a social studies project on Africa. They have their slide show rubrics, and projects are due on February 7th. There will be plenty of time to work  in class, but students are welcome to do work on them at home.

Remember, we need students to continue working on multiplication facts as often as possible because everything we do in math is based on multiplication.

Don't forget that each six weeks, students must complete two Reading Counts quizzes either at school or at home for a grade.

Thank you for all you do to insure the success of all of our students, we couldn't do it without you!

Healthy Schools will be returning to Ditto in April (no date yet) to administer the Tdap and Meningococcal immunizations to 6th graders.  These are the shots that are required for 7th grade.

There will not be a charge for these.  Watch for flyers to come home in the first week of March.

The Battle of the Books is a district-wide 4th and 5th grade reading program sponsored by the Arlington ISD school librarians.  The students read and studied 8 books during the fall and then took a test to determine which students will compete on Saturday, March 23.

The following 4th grade students will be representing Ditto at the Battle of the Books competition: Christopher S, Lamar O, Joel L and Kailyn J; alternate is Nate P.

The following 5th grade students will be representing Ditto at the Battle of the Books competition:  James Di, Xavier N, Bennett R and Cadence W; alternates are Erich W, Kevin C, Evelyn N and Lillian W.

Congratulations to these students and ALL of the students who read the books and took the tests; good luck to those who are going on in the district competition on March 23.

Author Angela Cervantes made a special appearance (thank you Scholastic) with our 4th and 5th graders last week!  She gave them some great tips about writing and shared her passion for writing and how she became successful.

The Six Flags Reading Program is underway!  Students need to read an average of one hour per week during their free time in order to earn a Six Flags over Texas admission ticket!  Students keep track of reading at home and then bring their signed form back to their teacher once they have completed their reading!  The last day to record their reading is Sunday, February 24 and the deadline to bring back their reading log is Monday, February 25.
