Kroger Community Rewards
Do you shop at Kroger and use your Kroger Plus card (or phone number)? If yes, please take a moment to connect your Kroger Plus account/card to Ditto Elementary and encourage family members and friends to do so, as well. Kroger will donate a percentage of all purchases to Ditto every time you shop and send a check to Ditto PTA every 3 months. It's very easy to do:

1. Visit
http://www.kroger.com and log into your account.
2.  Under the "Savings and Rewards" drop down menu, select Kroger Community Rewards.
3. Scroll down to I'm a customer. Want to enroll in Community Rewards? and click view details
4. On this page you can search for the organization and add "Ditto Elementary PTA".

You will remain enrolled until August 2019 and earn money each time you shop. Please take advantage of this easy way to earn money for our school.

Box Tops
Keep collecting those Box Tops! All Box Tops turned in to the box on the Ditto cafeteria stage between now and December 19th will count toward the 3rd six weeks contest. Collecting tip--ask grandparents, aunts/uncles, and other family members to collect Box Tops for you, picking them up from them when you see them during the holidays.

Reminders for collecting:

*Please do not use staples. Use glue or tape to attach Box Tops to collection pages.

*Check expiration date because expired Box Tops do not count

*Please trim into neat rectangles if possible, but be careful clipping so that you don't cut the expiration date or the BOLD letters in the upper left hand corner of the Box Top.

*You can put up to 50 Box Tops in one zip lock bag (label with student name/grade/teacher/# of Box Tops
) or use the sheets provided to collect 25 per page. Extra collection pages available on the cafeteria stage or at https://www.boxtops4education.com/about/collection-sheets

*Make SURE your student info (name/grade/teacher) is on the sheet or written on (or on a note inside) the ziploc bag if they wish to be considered for prizes!

Feel free to email
Laura.Farnell@gmail.com or sarahchaplinwalters@hotmail.com with questions or concerns about the Ditto PTA Box Tops program.

Your child should be able to correctly identify every letter, use correct formation when writing the letters, know the letter sounds, and identify what letter a word starts with. We are working on writing words using our letter sounds by stretching the words and listening for the letters that we hear.

We have learned sight words: I, a, see, can, we, like, the, am, in, go, went, me, my, to, do, you, look. Students should be able to recognize and name these words instantly. We also quiz them on the correct spelling of our sight words.

We are learning to make inferences with fiction texts. Students are making a logical prediction based on evidence from the story read aloud.

Our math focus will be numbers 0-15. We are studying measurable attributes such as capacity, length, height, and weight. We will also explore concepts like shorter, longer, lighter, heavier, bigger, and smaller.

During science we are exploring force, motion, pushes, pulls, and they way things move.

Language Arts:  Generate questions about text before, during, and after reading to deepen understanding; write brief comments on literary or informational texts; compose informational texts.
Math:  Generate a number that is greater than or less than a given whole number up to 120; apply basic fact strategies to add and subtract within 20 (including making 10 and composing and decomposing a number leading to a ten); apply properties of operations to add and subtract two or three numbers.
Social Studies: Understand the concepts of time and chronology (past, present, and future); understand the importance of family and community beliefs, customs, language, and traditions
Science: observe and record changes in the appearance of the night sky (moon, starts, sun).

Updates after the break!

In reading, we are continuing with figurative language and incorporating these aspects into our writing. We are also finishing up our unit on Poetry (narrative, humorous, lyrical, free verse, and haiku) and will introduce fables, legends, and myths.

In math, we are continuing to learn multiplication strategies (equal groups, repeated addition, skip counting, jumps on a number line, arrays, and area models) and are applying those strategies to solve word problems.

In science, we are learning about force and motion. In social studies, we are learning about good citizens and building communities.

STEM Collection: empty Kleenex boxes, cans, tubes, toilet paper rolls, etc.

***Important Notice***

The date for the Austin/San Antonio field trip has been changed.  We will send more information as soon as it becomes available.

Looking ahead, please remember that the 4th grade Redo (correct and return) for grades below a 70 will no longer be in place after this six weeks, the end of the first semester.  It is important that your child asks questions and works carefully so that this change of policy will not effect his/her grades significantly.

Math:  We will be working on patterns using Input/Output tables as well as fractions after the Thanksgiving break with an ongoing revisit to multi-step word problems.  In addition, our long division and double digit multiplication section will continue to be a constant throughout the year.

Language Arts:  Fourth grade has been learning all about Drama (Plays) with stage directions.  The students have certainly enjoyed acting these out!

Science:   We are continuing with our circuits/electricity unit.  Students love being able to build their own circuits!

Updates after the break!

Hello from the 6th grade team!

Please continue to monitor behavior sheets nightly, but remember you only need to sign them over the weekend. You can monitor student grades on Parent Self Serve.

If you have not signed up for 6th grade remind, text @ditto6 to 81010. This is a one way communication system that allows us teachers to send general reminders to 6th grade parents.

Any practice you can provide on multiplication facts (0-12 tables) would be greatly appreciated. There are many apps for that, and dollar stores have flash cards. We are seeing a need to sharpen these skills. Multiplication is a part of every unit in 6th grade math, and therefore a critical skill.

Each six weeks in reading class, students must complete 2 Reading Counts quizzes.

Our second round of CA's are coming up after Thanksgiving Break. Wednesday, November 28th is the writing assessment, followed by math on December 4th and reading on December 5th the next week. We will be reviewing in class, but feel free to help students prepare as we approach these important assessment dates.

Finally, a big thank you again from all of us for your Point's Day donations! It was a huge success because of your generosity.

Thanks for all of your continued support, we really appreciate it!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Updates after the break!

The Battle of the Books is a district-wide 4th and 5th grade reading program sponsored by the Arlington ISD school librarians. The students read 8 specific books during the fall and then take a test January 15 or 16 to determine which students will represent Ditto at the March 23rd (tentative date) district-wide competition.  4 representatives and 3 alternates from each grade level will be coached with Mrs. Murrow before the competition to “prepare for battle!”  A letter with more information went home recently.  The test to determine who are representatives and alternates is going to be administered in early January.

Ditto would love to have as MANY STUDENTS as possible participate in this exciting competition!  Is YOUR child going to be one of our contenders in the spring?  Bring on the Battle!
