Dear Neighbor,

I hope you are doing well. Here are a few updates from the county and town.

COVID-19 Update

This week, we received a few COVID-19 updates from our county manager Mike Callagy. There have been several vaccination clinics opening up for residents over 65 and those working in the medical field. Please stay informed about when vaccines are available for your age or job category. Please sign up to get vaccine notifications from your healthcare provider, the county, and the state.

Beginning February 22, the County of San Mateo will expand COVID-19 vaccinations to teachers and child care providers, first responders and food and agricultural workers who are eligible under the state’s Phase 1B as supply allows. More information can be found here.

As before, most San Mateo County residents will receive the vaccine from their primary care provider. Contact your health care provider for the most accurate and up to date information about when and how you can expect to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Overall, the County's COVID-19 numbers are looking good and the County manager is hopeful that we will move into the less restrictive red tier soon.

Restaurant, Brewery & Winery Relief Grants

This week, SMC Strong announced a new grant program for struggling restaurants, breweries, and wineries. The Restaurant, Brewery, and Winery Relief Program will provide grants of up to $10,000 each to qualifying establishments to ensure continued operation and assist in covering current business operating expenses, including, for example: rent, payroll, and facility modifications needed to accommodate on-site indoor and outdoor dining. The application portal is tentatively scheduled to open on Monday, February 22, 2021. More information can be found here.

Town Council Meeting

The Town Council will meet virtually this Tuesday (2/23/21) at 7:00 p.m. The full agenda can be found here

On Tuesday, the Council will have a study session on whether the Town's planning commission should continue in its current form. The planning commission is responsible for recommending ordinances and resolutions necessary to implement the Town's development policy. The Commission also conducts necessary public hearings to administer the planning laws and policies of the Town.

There are two main questions presented for discussion next week.

The first question is: Does the Town Council believe that Planning Commission representation by district is important to the governance of the Town [i.e. should commissioners continue to represent specific town districts]?

If the Town Council provides direction to remove the requirement that Commissioners be appointed to represent Council districts, all members could be declared at-large appointees when a new ordinance takes effect.

The second question is: Is seven members the correct number of Planning Commissioners for the Town of Woodside?

As always, the public is welcome to attend and comment on this topic. Information regarding calling in via phone or Zoom can be found in the link above. You can also email your thoughts to the council at CouncilMembers@woodsidetown.org.
