Councilmember Ned Fluet
Dear Neighbor,

I hope you are well and had a restful holiday.

COVID-19 Update

This week, on our call with the county manager, we learned that with each holiday over the past two months, SMC Health has seen a significant leap in COVID-19 transmission rates and the death toll has risen dramatically. Our county's ICU bed availability is very low but the county has additional surge beds and so it is ready for increased hospitalizations. For additional information, the county's COVID-19 health data dashboard can be found here.  As a result of this information, we do not expect to see the stay-at-home order lifted any time soon.
On the positive side, vaccinations have begun. As for the vaccine's distribution, the county is currently in Phase 1a, vaccinating front line health care workers, first responders, and long-term care facility residents. The subsequent phases will be rolled out in the next few months and the county anticipates that Phase 3 - vaccines for the general public - will occur in late Spring [April - June]. It is possible, however, that the timing of these phases will overlap or change. The criteria for each phase are determined by the Federal and State governments, not by the County.  More information on the vaccine roll out can be found here and here.
If you are on Medi-Cal, have no insurance or are part of a vulnerable population, you will get your vaccination through San Mateo County Health. For everyone else, you will likely get your vaccination through your healthcare provider—Kaiser, PAMF, Dignity, etc.

If you want additional information regarding the vaccines, SMC Health will be hosting a live FAQs regarding the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, January 13 at 11:30 a.m. available on Youtube, Twitter, or Facebook.

Please continue to practice social distancing, wear a face covering, and stay informed.
