WELCOME TO A VERY SPECIAL NEW ARRIVAL
AT BABANANGO GAME RESERVE!
The last two weeks at Babanango Game Reserve have been extremely exciting further to the early arrival of an incredibly special baby - our first white rhino calf!
We quietly introduced white rhino onto the reserve a year ago as part of our ongoing commitment to return the area to a pristine, biodiverse wilderness. Since that time we have also introduced buffalo with lion and elephant planned for the months ahead. Leopard occur naturally on Babanango, so the sprawling 22,000ha that make up our wonderful reserve will soon be home to the Big Five!
This wonderful new baby is evidence of the success of our strategic approach to reintegrate iconic species into the reserve, as the mother who was already pregnant when released onto Babanango, carried her calf to term over a whopping 16-months.
A sure sign that our rhinos will continue to thrive in this beautiful environment, protected by state-of-the-art anti-poaching monitoring and round-the-clock patrolling by dedicated anti-poaching officers.
We've named the baby - a girl - iThemba, which means "hope", not just for Babanango Game Reserve, but for the entire species!
