MEET THE TEAM
Jeffrey van Staden, COO, African Habitat Conservancy
We can reach new heights and actively work towards the conservation of our endemic fauna and flora due to our dedicated team and the management behind the creation of Babanango Game Reserve!
Jeffery van Staden can best be described as
a visionary with a deeply set passion for conservation.
Van Staden has a wealth of knowledge that he eagerly shares with his team at African Habitat Conservancy, creating a working environment that inspires development and professional growth.
As a father of three boys, van Staden is no stranger to being the leader of a pack - this is evident in his parenting style as he allows his children to be curious, explore, and travel across the globe by his side.
"The biggest lesson to children is to accept cultural diversity and respect for the natural environment. The way to teach them to care for these things is to expose them to it through travel."
Babanango Valley Lodge is situated in the South of Babanango Game Reserve, 50km from Vryheid in the malaria-free northern KwaZulu-Natal. The protected area boasts an impressive 22 000-hectares of pristine natural habitats waiting to be explored by outdoor enthusiasts.
Activities on offer at Babanango Valley Lodge are designed to immerse you into the exquisite natural surroundings. The lodge offers four-star accommodation in a relaxed bush setting and boasts striking panoramic views over the rocky valley and surrounding hillsides. Babanango Valley Lodge will officially open its doors once we reach lockdown level one, in time for a much-anticipated break from home.
Nature enthusiasts can indulge their wanderlust and explore the abundant wilderness, which is home to giraffe, hyena, and zebra along with several types of antelope with a lucky few getting to see elusive aardvark and aardwolf. Buffalo have recently been introduced to the reserve with plans for the remainder of the Big-Five to be installed over the next two years.
African Habitat Conservancy (AHC) partnered with the Kingsley Holgate Foundation, Do More Foundation, and Barrows to provide over 500 meals to the Emcakwini local community. The initiative was brought to the forefront by The Kingsley Holgate Foundation who identified the local Babanango community as an area in need of support during COVID-19.
The initiative was facilitated by AHC and together with other investors provided the community with nutritional porridge parcels. Key members of the community identified 200 families as vulnerable to circumstances created by COVID-19. The foundation along with the Solidarity Fund and KZN Church Council allocated funds to assist these community members with cellphone vouchers along with R400 for groceries. We will continue to work with NGOs and other key players in the industry to support our neighbors through the hard times.
