Enfield Debt Centre Update

Dear Friends,
Update

We're pleased, and a little saddened, to let you know of a few changes going on at Enfield Churches Debt Centre.

Today Rev Melanie Smith stepped down as a trustee - she's off to Fiji - so that's sad, but we have appointed Bob Bell and Pete Desmond as additional trustees for ECDC!

Bob currently attends St John's church, Enfield and Pete is a Deacon at Enfield Baptist Church.

In addition we're pleased to let you know that we are working closer with Enfield Vineyard CAP Debt Advice Centre and they are launching another JobClub next week:-

Enfield Vineyard are running their second Job Club starting on Monday October 4th.  This free service offers a friendly and safe place where clients receive practical help as they seek employment,  from interview skills to CV writing. It is a relaxed environment with the chance to meet other jobseekers, get support and gain the tools needed to find work. It is an 8 week course and can be included as evidence when being asked to actively seek employment on receipt of benefits.

If you or anyone you know would find this useful can I encourage you to visit Enfield Vineyard Church website where you can learn a little bit more about the course and sign up for it.

Any enquiries can be directed to Nicky Routledge 07599 282715

Date for your diary

We're now working on a launch for Enfield Churches Debt Centre, which will be held at Enfield Baptist Church on Sunday 7th November at 6.30 pm - please do put this in your diary! This, again, will be a date when we will be focussing on both Enfield Churches Debt Centre and Enfield Vineyard CAP Debt Centre and letting everyone know all that is happening in Enfield in this area at present.

Referrals

Referrals to either the Enfield Churches Debt Centre or the Enfield Vineyard CAP Debt Advice Centre can be made by giving CAP a call on 0800 328 0006.

Please do pray for the many in the borough of Enfield that we know need to find freedom from debt and faith in Christ.

Other Help

We continue to look for people with computer skills and social media skills at present to assist Jonathan in his work. If this is something you think you can lend a hand with then please do message jonathanharris@capuk.org
If you also have a spare screen or tablet that you're not using at present, Jonathan could make good use of it - please do contact Jonathan if you could help.

Trustees

We remain keen to find some additional trustees to help with the work of Enfield Churches Debt Centre, particularly from people who may have experience of marketing/promotion, administration and HR. If you think that this could be something that is of interest to you please do contact the current chair, Rev Mark Meatcher, whose email address is revd.meatcher@gmail.com

Rev Nick Chanda will be taking over from Mark as Chair in the very near future as Mark prepares to take on a new post abroad.

If you're interested in doing other things to help, maybe simply joining the Steering Group at this time then again please do get in touch with Mark as outlined above in the first instance.

Soup Lunches

Recommencing on Wednesday 3rd November.   Following the relaxation of Covid restrictions the soup lunches are returning to St John's church hall on the first Wednesday of every month at 1.00pm, except during  lent when it is every Wednesday. The lunch costs £5 per head and people usually receive second helpings of the homemade soup accompanied by different kinds of bread (sometimes home made bread). There is also tea, coffee & fellowship.

All money raised goes to our supported charities in rotation, except the Lent monies which go to The Bridge of Hope, those are the Mothers Union, the Night Shelter, Noah's Ark, the Church Urban Fund and Christian Aid.

Quiz Night
6th November: Quiz in St Luke’s Church starting at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm. Tickets will be £10 and £8 for concessions and are available from Elaine Plumb.
