Athletes, Coaches, Judges and Officials -

In less than 10 months we will join together in Liverpool, England for the first IBTF World Baton Twirling Championship. This competition will be special for many reasons, but most of all because it will bring together three competitions into one:
  1. Nations Cup - for B & A level athletes
  2. World Majorettes Championship
  3. World Baton Twirling Championship
We recognize the anticipation and planning that goes into participating in an event of this caliber and have started to address frequently asked questions in regard to Liverpool on the IBTF website.

IBTF looks forward to receiving additional information from the host country of England and its organizing committee. I encourage all of you to bookmark England's championship website linked here. If you haven't done so already, check out the venue in Liverpool - it's amazing!

Lastly, the IBTF Executive Committee is proud to announce that the 2024 IBTF World Twirling Championship featuring Freestyle and Rhythmic Twirl disciplines will take place in Helsingborg, Sweden! Save the date: August 4-11, 2024.

SOME IMPORTANT RULE CLARIFICATIONS:

FOR DUOS, TEAMS, AND GROUPS:
  • CLARIFICATION #1:  Athletes may NOT be a member of two Artistic Pairs, or two Duets, or two Artistic Teams, or Twirl Teams, or Artistic Groups, or two Twirling Corps, regardless of the level (Example: An athlete may not compete in A Level Team and a World Level Team)
  • CLARIFICATION #2: Athletes may be a member of two different disciplines. (Examples:  A member of a Level A Team and an Artistic Group; a member of a Level A Twirl Team and a Level A Artistic Team.)
FOR INDIVIDUAL DISCIPLINES:
  • CLARIFICATION #3: In the individual disciplines, an athlete may not compete in any one discipline at more than one level. (Example: An athlete may not compete in Solo at both the A level and the World Level.)
  • CLARIFICATION #4: In the individual disciplines, an athlete is allowed to compete at a different level in a different discipline. (Example: An athlete may compete in World Level Solo and A Level 2 Baton if their skill and proficiency are determined to be lower in one discipline compared to the other discipline.)

An athlete's placement at recent competitions (whether regional, continental, or world competitions) determine the level at which they should enter IBTF competitions.

As the IBTF philosophy states:

It is the responsibility of the coach and athlete to enter the appropriate level in the Nations Cup based on the athlete’s true skill proficiency and experience.

The IBTF expects that all member countries will respect and honor these levels in order to uphold the integrity of international competition and promote an honest competitive environment.

By reviewing the Content Restrictions that are in place, athletes should enter the appropriate level based on their proficiency and competitive achievement.

Athletes who
compete at higher levels throughout the year in their respective countries, SHOULD NOT have routines “watered-down” in order to meet the content restriction requirement to compete at a lower level competition.

The IBTF is thrilled to offer competition for majorettes at the 2023 IBTF World Baton Twirling and Majorettes Championship. To prepare, below are some frequently asked questions.

Q: Are Pom Poms permitted at the 2023 IBTF World Majorettes Championship?
A: IBTF cannot offer a Pom Poms Championship because it is classified as a sport discipline in Cheerleading. Countries are permitted to host Pom Poms events at the national level, but IBTF may not host a Pom Poms Championship at the international level.

Q: What is the cost to attend the IBTF World Majorettes Championship?
A:
IBTF is offering the first-ever World Majorettes Championship. This is a special event featuring World Championship medallions (gold, silver, and bronze) for each athlete of each majorette corps. The $25 USD cost per athlete covers the cost of the specialized world medallion.

Q: What is the IBTF's Goal?
A:
IBTF's goal in the future is to offer world majorettes championship on a stand-alone level. These championship would be organized by a commission of experts in the international majorettes field. Majorettes are an important part of baton twirling and deserve to have their own world championship. Being a part of the first-ever IBTF World Majorettes Championship in Liverpool, England is an opportunity to join the IBTF and help develop the World Majorettes Championship for the future which may include additional disciplines.

Q: How can I get involved?
A: IBTF needs experts in the majorettes field to be involved in this new majorettes commission. Interested? Contact ibtf.batontwirling@gmail.com.
