A Last Express Milestone

Thanks to all Last Express fans who joined us in celebrating the game's 25th anniversary in April! We left a Twitter trail of behind-the-scenes images from our 1994 rotoscoped film shoot; and I've put a few new goodies from the archives on the Library page, including the original game script and my 2010 screenplay adaptation. This retrospective article on GamesHub by David Wildgoose looks back at Last Express 25 years later, and showcases some of the on-set photos we shared.

A new adventure

On May 11, the first volume of my new graphic-novel trilogy Monte Cristo (with the wonderful Italian illustrator Mario Alberti) arrived in French bookstores. Set in post-9/11 America, it's a modern-day version of Dumas' timeless tale of love, revenge and redemption. I can't wait for readers to discover it.

I'll post as soon as there's news about English and other language releases. In the meantime, you can read about the book (and order the French edition) here. I hope you'll enjoy it!

For Prince of Persia fans...

This month brought the welcome announcement that the remake of POP: Sands of Time has been officially handed over to Ubisoft's Montreal studio. That's where we made the original game 20 years ago, so it's good news.

There's an excellent account of Sands of Time's development in Les histoires de Prince of Persia (for now, only in French) -- an in-depth retrospective of the franchise's 40-year history by journalist Raphael Lucas, published in March by Third Editions. He interviewed many participants in POP's various incarnations, including me, and did a great job synthesizing everyone's perspectives. I recommend it.

Third also publishes the French version of my Making of Prince of Persia journals, based on the hardcover illustrated collector's edition from Stripe Press. You can download free PDF samples of the different editions of the journals (in French and English) here.

Upcoming events

If you'll be in France in May (or Warsaw in June)...
  • May 20-22: I'll be at Comédie du Livre in Montpellier, France, with Mario Alberti, signing our brand-new Monte Cristo (and my other books) at the Azimuts BD stand. (You can also order a book directly from Azimuts and I'll sign it.)
  • May 24: Bookstore signing at Librairie Vignettes in Paris.
  • June 11: Q&A and book signing at Pixel Heaven independent games festival in Warsaw, Poland. 100% of proceeds from my book sales will go to Project Hope to benefit Ukraine refugees.
I'll post additional details on Twitter/Instagram as the scheduled dates approach. I hope to see some of you there!

New York, Washington Square Park. It feels good to be traveling again after two such quiet years.
