It has been a busy term! Casting my mind back to September and it feels like a lifetime ago. This term we have visited over 10 campuses, running Lunch n Learns such as 'Why don't Jews talk about hell?' and 'Why are so many Jews, feminists?, Dinner and Discussions such as 'Walking the narrow bridge between joy and sadness' and helping to run FND's. We have met so many of you, and it has been wonderful! If you are on campus and would like more support please get in touch asap!
Another important part of this term was visiting UJS Summit, and seeing the campaigns of all three of the presidential candidates. We even asked all three candidates how they would support progressive Jewish students on campus, and here you can see each of their replies.
And to celebrate Chanukah, we sent 150 of you a Chanukah pack with candles, a Chanukiah, and our own postcard with descriptions of themes for each day. We hope you enjoyed these! Now as the term soon comes to a close, we wish you a good luck and a restful break. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2019!

A final reflection on Chanukah
|
|
"We're coming towards the end of the first semester and approaching the break - what a relief it is to have an expanse of time off on the horizon! Time out - a chance to play, reflect and think - is so precious and can often feel lacking as it gets lost amidst the busyness of daily life.
Chanukah recalls the rededication of the temple by the macabees. Nowadays there is not, of course, a temple at the heart of Jewish practice. I am reminded of the insight articulated by Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel in his lovely little book The Sabbath; that our Judaism focuses on time rather than space. That the focus on the temple of old has transformed into our focus on temples in time. He discusses how Shabbat can be understood and observed as exactly that - a temple, or a palace, in time.
Tradition recommends that while the Chanukah candles are lit we sit with them and do not do any other work during the duration of their flame. These twenty minutes are precious. Just as the macabees rededicated the temple, we are invited to rededicate time.
May you find following this festive period and in the moments in between study and upcoming deadlines- a space to reflect, to breath, and to rededicate your time to that which helps you grow, learn and heal.
A final Chanukah Sameach, and good luck to whatever deadlines you may have!"
