STOP THE BOMB TRAINS

Unless you take action, Norfolk Southern will be able to run unstable double-stack trains next to tanker cars carrying volatile Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) on a route that zigzags through Pittsburgh’s most densely populated neighborhoods.

Please urge the Biden administration to reverse actions taken by the previous administration to allow the transport by rail of this hazardous, flammable, and potentially explosive cargo. Historically, transporting LNG by railcar had been banned to protect public safety because the risk of derailment and puncture were too great. Nothing has changed in that regard, but under the previous administration, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a federal rule on July 24, 2020 which authorized the bulk transportation of LNG by rail tanker car for carriers nationwide.

Because your City and State representatives have no jurisdiction in this matter, we are asking you to add your voice to urge the Biden Administration to reinstate the ban on LNG transport by rail tanker car to protect your family’s safety and the safety of our city’s most critical infrastructure.

Please add your name to the petition that will be delivered to the Biden administration later this month and share it with your networks.  Click this link for the petition.

Thank you.
