LET THE GRADUATION CEREMONIES COMMENCE

Nothing feels quite normal, but schools are doing their best to make graduates feel special. Here's what some of our local schools are doing:

Mount Madonna School

Had a grad package distribution that included a cap and gown, and "Class of 2020 Mount Madonna School graduate" yard sign. It will host a virtual watch party of the recorded graduation speeches from all 18 graduates, along with a photo montage and music on Thursday, June 11 at 9:30am. Students will receive their diplomas and gifts at a drive through event later the same day.

Cypress, Sequoia, Cabrillo, Star, El Nido and Highlands will have an in-person drive-up celebration, one family at a time.

SLVHS had a cap and gown pickup and will have a car parade Friday.

SLV Charter will have a Zoom Graduation Ceremony.

PVUSD Schools will had a “Ready, Set, Gown pickup in May, had neighbors decorate with lights May 25-29 and graduation drive-through pick-up this week. Today there will be a virtual graduation ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

Santa Cruz, Harbor and Soquel Highs will have an in-person diploma pickup, senior recognition with caps and gowns and one at a time photos and a live planned celebration in the fall.

Costanoa High has a prerecorded video montage of all graduates with posters and one at a time photos.

You sent in your graduation dedications, and we printed them in our June edition! Pick up your copy at your local distribution location. You can also view them on our website. Follow our Instagram and Facebook stories to see them as well @GrowingUpSC

DIVE INTO THE JUNE EDITION
Good and Bad for Business

Abbott Square has reopened Wednesday through Sunday, 3-9pm, for take-out or dine-in service. We love that place because it feels like the center of town. After 40 years Kelley’s Bakery Cafe is closing its Westside dining service, but keeping its deliveries to restaurants and markets. The cafe business is up for sale. That’s another outdoor place we visit often.

Online Recital

When Kirby School went “COVID quiet” its music teachers figured out a way to save its annual spring concert by producing a socially-distant Digital Spring Concert. It will be produced Friday at 5 p.m. Check Kirby’s Facebook page for details about streaming it live.

With so many of us forced to stay around home, many have found solace by adopting pets in record numbers. Why not? You finally have time to give them the attention and training they need, while otherwise you might be at work and school.
