Backyard Gardens:
Action on the Climate Emergency
The Backyard Garden Project, spearheaded by Sooke's Stephen Hindrichs, is a collaboration of Transition Sooke, Sooke Region Food Chi and the Sooke Garden Club.
So far, the project has delivered 100 grow bags and seven raised beds to about 30 families in the Sooke area.
In addition to $1,000 from Transition Sooke, the project has received $2,000 from Rotary along with donations from the Sooke Garden Club and individuals. Sooke Soil and Landscape donated two truckloads of soil (10 yards).
There are still funds available and volunteers hope to continue the project into the fall and possibly next year.
For more information, contact Stephen.
