CCC Fall News: Sept 9, 2021

Summer has come to an end. Thanks to all our members and volunteers for making the summer a great one ! 

A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to all our amazing returning and new staff this year that have gone above and beyond.

As the summer temperatures fade, paddling conditions can be uncertain. Watch the www.calgarycanoeclub.com or Facebook for weather related modifications and dress for the weather. Today the sun is out and the water is inviting. 


ROADWAY CLOSURE:
The road and pathway to the Calgary Canoe Club will be CLOSED as of Sept 13 via Crowchild Trail. You can access the club using the 37 Street entrance.

Fall Programs are now LIVE on the website - We welcome all to come back in the Fall or the Winter! Autumn is a beautiful time for paddlers on the reservoir.  Fall training is a time to build on the skills introduced in the summer months and prepare the foundation for the next season. Generally, the focus of fall training is skill development and aerobic conditioning. Please head here to sign up for the Fall program

Please check the website for your athletes schedule the end of the Fall training is Saturday, October 16. After which we will transition into offseason paddling (winter). Winter start is November 1. 
 
CCC ON THE NATIONAL STAGE:
Until July, it looked like another season without a national championships but the hard workers at CanoeKayak Canada and the Rideau Canoe Club in Ottawa managed to pull it together. A small contingent of 12 sprint team members (image above) achieved 10 A-finals and 6 trips to the medal podium. Big congrats to our medal winners:
  • Julia Demchuck - U18 K1 1000m (Bronze)
  • Kristiane Fee - U18 K1 200m (Silver) & 500m (Bronze)
  • Nikita Ciudin - U16 C1 1000m (Gold), 500m (Gold) & 200m Silver
CCC ON THE WORLD STAGE:
Junior World Championships - (Sept 3-6) in MONTEMOR-O-VELHO, Portugal

Olympic Hopes Regatta will take place in Racice, Czech Republic - September 10-12th.

We are in the midst of lining up the programming for winter and this will get emailed out soon and posted on the website.
