Fr. Andrew Apostoli, CFR
Following a long tradition started by Fathers Benedict Groeschel and Andrew Apostoli of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal giving retreats at Good Counsel Retreat House, Fr. Angelus Montgomery, CFR is coming February 22-24 to give a retreat on the topic "American Saints and Heroic Virtue".

The retreat talks will look at the lives of people like Fr. Walter Ciszek, Dorothy Day and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Fr. Angelus wants to examine how "real American saints give witness to the power of holiness in our country.  There are virtues or disposition of heart that can be learned from their stories which inspire us to live lives of holiness."

Brother Vitorio, CFR will also join the retreat and speak on the newly beatified Fr. Solanus Casey, including his connection to Fr. Benedict Groeschel.

Speaking on the importance of retreats, Fr. Angelus says "In my own experience, to create some space for the Lord to work in our lives is an incredible thing, as the space in our heart can get filled with all kinds of things.  A retreat creates a space for the Lord to do something beautiful and would be fruitful for everyone to attend."
Fr. Angelus Montgomery, CFR joined the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in 2009, took final vows in 2014, and was ordained a priest in 2018.  He and his brother first encountered the Friars when they went to New York City to help with a kids’ summer camp with the Missionaries of Charity.

“We were instantly attracted to the ‘Franciscan’ way of life and the way they lived the Gospel,” Fr. Angelus said. “They were joyful men on fire for the Lord and serving others. They captured my heart. I wanted to give my life to the Lord in this way.”
Born a triplet, Katie, Scott (Fr. Innocent, CFR) and Rusty Montgomery (Fr. Angelus, CFR) grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska with their older brother Bob. Their parents, Richard and Luanne Montgomery, passed on to them the gift of faith, with the values and virtues that inspire Fr. Angelus to work hard and give his life in service to others.  He currently serves in the vocations office, and hosts with his brother the EWTN series ICONS Spotlight.

The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal were founded in 1987 by eight Franciscan friars, and today number more than 120. They have several friaries in New York City, across the U.S. and four other countries. Their primary mission is “a wholehearted embracing of Jesus Christ and our Holy Father St. Francis.”  Learn more at
