Safeguarding children during COVID-19
All childcare providers, including those who are currently closed, have a duty of care to help safeguard children and their families. If you have any queries regarding this, please contact your allocated link worker.

Please remember that their is a new BCP Children's Services First Report Hub with one phone number and email address for all referrals (link below).

We have also included a link below to the Dorset COVID domestic abuse campaign for yor information and to promote.

Safeguarding vulnerable children and adults
Right now, vulnerable children and adults may be particularly isolated, meaning that the family, community and professional networks they usually rely on may be unavailable or hard to access. At the same time, living under the current arrangements may increase the pressures that can contribute to abuse and neglect, or allow it to go unseen. Neighbours, volunteers and professionals can play a vital role in keeping adults and children safe.

The Home Office, in collaboration with a number of other Government departments, has produced information and guidance for those who are operating in communities and may not be trained to recognise the signs of abuse or neglect. The guidance covers signs to spot and what to do if there is a concern.

•    Speech and Language
•    Transition to school

If you think that one of your families would benefit from attending - then please see attached flyer for referral information and more detail about each of the groups. We look forward to receiving your referrals and meeting your families.

Please note that we are still awaiting guidance on transition to school arrangements for 2020. Arrangements are subject to change in receipt of this guidance.

Starting School Together
Being ready for school is vital and there are many ways we can support children who are preparing to go into Reception class at school.

Starting School Together activities will help families to learn together the key elements of transitioning to school successfully. The programme will engage families on a weekly basis either by telephone or in face to face sessions in centres. Each session will concentrate on specific activities tailor made for each child.

Heat Health information
The Met Office has forecast warm temperatures from Wednesday to Friday this week. Most of us welcome the hot weather, but there can be health risks such as dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Everyone can be affected but the most vulnerable people are older people, young children and people with existing health conditions. It is worth reminding yourself of steps to take during periods of hot weather in order to protect yourself and those you work with.

Coping in hot weather: tips for everyone:
  • Shut windows and pull down the shades when it is hotter outside. Open the windows for ventilation when it is cooler.
  • Avoid the heat: stay out of the sun and don't go out between 11am and 3pm (the hottest part of the day) if you're vulnerable to the effects of heat.
  • Have cool baths or showers, and splash yourself with cool water.
  • Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol.
  • Plan ahead to make sure you have enough supplies, such as food, water and any medications you need.
  • Identify the coolest room in the house or at work so you know where to go to keep cool.
  • Wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors.
  • Check up on people who may be less able to look after themselves.
