Autumn 2020 Early Education Funding using autumn 2019 data
On 28 August the Early Education Funding Team emailed all funded providers (plus a newsletter article 9 September) of our intention to use your autumn 2019 funding data as a base for payments, where that is beneficial for your business.

Following the balance payment process for those choosing to be paid twice termly, and where the provider had responded to our MS Forms question, the team have calculated exceptional payments to ensure providers that were funded in autumn 2019 receive at least the equivalent amount of 2, 3 and 4 year old funding this term (monthly paid will see this benefit at your balance payment stage in December).

Reference to any exceptional payments can be found under ‘adjustments’ per age category on your FIS Provider Portal.  You can be reminded how we calculated this payment using the examples in the link below, but please email the team if required.

SEND Local Offer questionnaire for completion

The SEN Code Of Practice 0-25 says that local authorities must publish a Local Offer, setting out in one place information about provision available across education, health and social care for children and young people who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.

In order to ensure that we have up to date information for parents and carers of the offer your setting has for children with Special Educational Needs and Disability, please complete the attached template (guidance is provided) and email as a PDF or Word document to localoffer@bcpcouncil.gov.uk by 13 November 2020.

We will then attach the document to your settings directory record on the Family Information Directory so that it can be viewed by parents and carers.

If you need advice or help regarding this please contact: Gemma Tappenden, Senior Area SENCo by email.

BCP Council early years safeguarding training update
COVID-19 has changed the face of education and training and we have been adapting our previous safeguarding training and support offer into a virtual offer using MS Teams. We will continue to offer all courses virtually until it is safe for us to offer some courses face to face.

All courses will still be published on CPD for bookings in the normal way we'll update you about what is on offer through these newsletters. We are pleased to inform you that our first virtual Early Years Forum for Designated Safeguarding Leads is planned on Wednesday 11 November from 9.30 to 11am.

Attendees who attended the first session of the Foundation Safeguarding training in March where the second session was postponed due to COVID-19 will be contacted by the Early Years team shortly, as we are hoping to complete this course during the autumn term.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
Developmental Language Disorder is diagnosed when children fail to acquire their own language for no obvious reason. This results in children who have difficulty understanding what people say to them, and struggle to articulate their ideas and feelings. It affects approximately two children in every classroom.

This short video, from the Dorset Health Care University NHS Foundation Trust, expresses what it is like to have DLD from a child's perspective.
