This edition includes an important update on the latest government guidance:
Latest government guidance - 30 December
The government have advised in this latest guidance that...

“It continues to be our aim that all children can attend early years provision. This guidance is intended to support early years settings to manage provision during coronavirus (COVID-19). We continue to work with the early years sector to understand how they can best be supported to ensure that sufficient safe, appropriate and affordable childcare is available for those returning to work now, and for all families who need it in the longer term…

…We are continuing to make progress in understanding the disease and transmission characteristics of coronavirus (COVID-19). In addition, early years settings are on average much smaller than schools. This allows a less restrictive approach to mixing, and operating within strict space and ratio requirements, within settings than schools.”

Key points to remember for Tier 4
BCP Council has been added to Tier 4 and for many households this will mean that most of us will be asked to work from and to stay at home most of the time. When we leave to do essential things such as shopping and getting medicines we are expected to stay local and not to travel to areas with lower tiers. You can check these changes out here.

Parents and their children can travel to and from their childcare setting but must only go and return home without spending time beyond that purpose. Dorset is in Tier 3 and it is important to be aware of that.

Except for the exceptions outlined in the Tier 4 link above, this is a stay at home tier. We are expected to stay local and within tier. We are also expected to stay in our own household and there are small exceptions for child and other caring responsibilities.

This is designed to drive down the virus and to protect the NHS capacity to support us all.

Please take care. We know it’s a worrying time but we and Public Health Dorset remain committed to helping all we can and have asked for further guidance for parents and carers to help you. See the Early Years Action Card below.
