Learn  - Explore - Debate
The Learn – Explore – Debate events, hosted by Foundation Years in March, which focused on the revised EYFS had sessions on reducing unnecessary workload and self-regulation in the early years.

There are two groups of video clips:
  • Session 1: Reducing workload: data, tracking and assessment has two very helpful videos: Phil Minns from Ofsted and Julian Grenier outlining the changes and especially what we need to cover in our planning of the curriculum to support the children recovering from pandemic restrictions – Laurence’s story is inspiring!
  • Session 2: Self-regulation in the early years
The recordings and case studies from the events can be found in the link below.

DfE qualification checker
For any settings that have allowed staff to complete training online, please check that they have completed a full and relevant qualification to allow them to work in ratios. We have been finding that some people have forgotten to check on the DfE qualification checker.

Domestic Abuse Act statutory guidance: consultation
The Home Office is consulting on draft domestic abuse statutory guidance which will support the implementation of the definition of domestic abuse in England and Wales.

Chapter 3 of the guidance looks at the impact on children and young people who are recognised as victims of domestic abuse for the first time. The guidance highlights different aspects of the experience of children and young people, so that this can be considered in seeking to meet their needs. It explains how the statutory definition of domestic abuse is to operate alongside other measures that address the safeguarding of children and young people.

The consultation closes on 14 September 2021.

NHS COVID-19 app tweaked to notify fewer contacts
The NHS COVID-19 app in England and Wales is being tweaked so fewer contacts will be advised to self-isolate following a close contact with a positive case.

The app will look for contacts two days prior, rather than five, when someone without symptoms tests positive.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said it would reduce disruption while still protecting those at risk.
