Writing and Media Center

Feeling Stressed? Overwhelmed?

As we approach finals week, many of us are finding our stress levels are increasing and our hours of sleep are rapidly decreasing. Big project deadlines creep up, and it can be challenging to hold yourself accountable. Here are some tips to help you stay on track for success

Before:

  • One way to work on these time management skills is to look at each piece of the assignment or project and take a step back. Thinking about these prior to starting the assignment or towards the beginning can help you hold yourself accountable.

    • Are there any places you may need to check in with your professor?

    • Would it be helpful to make an appointment at the Writing and Media Center to check-in?

  • It can also be helpful to make assignment checklists with each piece you need to complete and a (tentative) date or time for it to be done. This can make large projects seem less daunting, and ease stress levels.

  • As we are navigating through this time, remember you are capable!

  • Take screen breaks, standing breaks, and whatever else you may need to bring you some peace of mind.

After:

  • Rest, take time to heal and recover from the stressful finals season

  • Reflect! What were your biggest stressors? Take this Self-Care Quiz
