Celebrating Our Prairie People!
June 2022

Daphne Prairie in June, Mt. Vernon, TX
We're thankful for our prairies AND our people.

June is a special month for prairies. Did you know that June 4th is National Prairie Day? June 20-26 is Pollinator Week. And on June 22nd we'll be hosting nationally recognized conservationist Dwayne Estes for an evening webcast about the Southeastern Grassland Initiative that he co-founded. Join us in celebrating our prairies!

And every Wednesday in June we will feature one of our many incredible NPAT members -- Our Prairie People. It is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks to some of the people who inspire us to keep Texas prairie.

In appreciation of "Our Prairie People" this month, all new and renewing members are automatically entered to win a pair of new binoculars! Read on...
Our Prairie People
Anna Hurst
Owner, Ecoblossom Nursery and Happy Gardens Landscape Design
NPAT Member since 2018

Her first monthly gifts started just after she opened her new online nursery in the fall of 2018. Since then, Anna Hurst and her customers have donated almost $1,000 to NPAT, giving back even more than she already does to the cause of preserving native plants and biodiversity.
Anna moved to the U.S. in the early 2000's and started her Happy Gardens landscape design business in 2008. She launched her online nursery, Ecoblossom, because she couldn't find the native plants she has always loved at nurseries in Fort Worth.

Some of Anna's favorite prairie plants above and why she loves them (clockwise, upper left to right): 1. Prairie Pestemon - a real showstopper, and can be spotted from afar. 2. Little Bluestem - striking vertical growth, lovely blade color, and because it provides cover, food, and nesting for birds and insects. 3. American Basketflower - showy and pollinators love it. 4. Sideoats Grama - its texture, adaptability, and wildlife value. It is also a host plant for skipper butterflies.
As part of "Our Prairie People" month, all new members are also automatically entered to win a pair of new binoculars! These Vortex Viper HD 8x42 binoculars, perfect for birding on the prairie, have an MSRP of $639.99. They were generously donated by NPAT member David Hurt, owner of Dallas Wild Birds Unlimited. If you are in his neighborhood, drop by, pick up some birdseed, and thank him!
