Five years of Laudato Si'

On 24 May, we celebrate five years of Laudato Si' which has placed the environment centre stage in the life of the church. It has also declared that justice for those on the margins to be part of that same struggle. Laudato Si'  has placed the church at the heart of the wider global struggle to protect our common home.
EcoJesuit call - 'Action for the oikos'

EcoJesuit,  of which JESC is a member, has marked this year's Earth Day with a 20 minute video - 'Urgent Action on the Oikos.'   This inspiring video shows the centrality of indigenous peoples to the challenge we face and gives an overview of the EcoJesuit network. This is great viewing for Laudato Si' Week.

Thecoming days leading up to 24 May provide an opportunity to stop and reflect  as we approach the fifth anniversary of Laudato Si'. The Laudato Si' Week website has a message from Pope Francis and offers online retreats, workshops, and training.

On 22 April Pope Francis celebrated the 50th Earth Day, which was first celebrated in 1970. He reflected on the human and Christian responsibility to care for the Earth, humanity’s common home, but he also said something which Eco-Bites editor cannot agree on.
