From the Principal…
Half way through Term 3!!!!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our community surveying. We are in process of delving into the data to identify areas that need to be improved. Overall, the results demonstrate strong support for how the school is being managed, but we can always do better!

If you haven't heard from your kids at Tindale, the toilet blocks have had a complete refurbishment. They are sparkling and modern. The only complaint was that the mirrors had not been put back in, but they are on the way.

In 2021, we will be using a new communication system called Compass for attendance, online excursion permission and for making electronic payment to the school. You will be able to manage all of this via an app. Compass will streamline our information management and will eventually also replace Connect. In Term 4, we will commence getting information out to you about how to be ready for the change.

We are looking forward to the Year 12 Ball and the whole-school Athletics Carnival!

Canteen Improvement Project

Student leaders have been given $5000 on each site to make some changes in the canteen areas to improve the atmosphere. Thank you to the P&C for their contribution of $5000. The students had to make a plan on how to improve the areas, research what other students wanted to see improved and investigate prices for what they planned to purchase. On Tuesday, Year 9 student leaders Lisa and Jess Pahl and Year 12 student leaders Nathalie Tarrosa and Jireh Auva’a presented their proposals to the college board. Both teams made very impressive presentations and will soon be able to begin the implementation of their plans.

Exmouth Camp 2020
In July, 34 lucky students and 5 teachers went on a 9-day long camp to the alluring Exmouth. "During this camp we did several fun activities such as surfing and snorkelling at beautiful beaches and bays, sup boarding, had little adventures and met lots of amazing new people."

Year 6 Orientation Day - Tindale Campus
On Friday the 31st of July, we had students from our feeder Primary schools attend an orientation day at our Tindale campus. There, they participated in activities such as sport, science, art and cooking.

In sport, the students played all sorts of games, relay races and more. For science, they did an experiment using red cabbage leaves, acids and bases. They had heaps of fun as they left for their next activity.

In art, the students made geometric art that they turned into an origami box. The students were laughing and enjoying themselves the whole time. They made pizza muffins in cooking to get them used to the kitchen.

They then said their thank yous and goodbyes and left feeling happy and wanting to do it all again.

Surfing WA - State School Surfing Titles - Peel Competition

On Monday 3rd August a group of JTC legends endured the coldest day on record in 15 years, hanging out at Avalon Beach for the Surfing WA State School Surfing Titles- Peel comp. Conditions were rough, with onshore winds and a solid swell, but everybody showed incredible courage and had a heap of fun surfing out there.
Shivering between heats, our girls Junior and Senior Body Boarding and Surfing teams made it through to finals, unfortunately going down to Mandurah Catholic College. Junior Boys Body Boarding made it to the semi-finals also just missing out on finals with a super close loss to MCC.
JTC finished up in 3rd place overall thanks to a massive effort from all involved! Massive thankyou to everybody who came down to compete and to support us!

JTC Celebrates HASS Week!
August 1-7 was HASS WA Week. To celebrate, the HASS department arranged a pop up quiz stall for students to answer questions and win prizes. Students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the trivia!
Quizzes were also provided in homerooms to challenge students’ knowledge of key geographical, historical and economic features in a fun way.

Well done to all involved.

Containers for Change
(Refunds for Eligible Recyclable Containers)
As many would have heard by now Western Australia has joined the revolution and implementing the Containers for Change program from 1st October 2020.

This is a State-wide container deposit scheme that lets you cash in eligible drink containers for 10-cents each.

In WA, we use more than 1.3 billion drink containers each year, enough to line a path from Perth to Broome, with many of these currently ending up as litter on the side of the road or in landfill, and most of them are made of materials that are easily recyclable.
Eligible containers can be returned in two ways :
  1. Drop off at a Refund Point for your refund
  2. Donate to John Tonkin College who will collect containers as a fundraising opportunity
Therefore if you have containers and would like to donate them to John Tonkin College then please drop off in either of the cages when dropping or collecting students :
  1. Near the Exit Gates at Tindale Campus
  2. Outside the Library (near the Bus Shed) in the pickup & drop-off lane at MET Campus
Lists of eligible containers are found on
Please do not deposit ineligible containers into the JTC cages as there will be a cost for them to be removed which decreases the refund for containers provided back to John Tonkin College?
If you are transporting the containers to the cages within boxes or bags, please empty the eligible containers only into these cages?
Thank you for your assistance in helping keep our State cleaner, and helping JTC raise some funds which will be used for the benefit of students.
