House Growth

The beginning of 2021 has been a mixed bag here at the Aarigaa House. For House Study we continue to study the life of Christ, now in our third trip through the gospel. In ways it has felt as though we’ve been taking two steps forwards and one step back. Despite adversity, we have been able to continue our pursuit of Christ and discipleship as the House community.

We have been blessed with two new residents this year. Sam comes from Nome and Marcus comes from Kwigilingok which is near Bethel. Both of these young men bring a new perspective to the house as well as new challenges.
"Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." - 2 Peter 3:17-18
Silver Lining

Though this winter has presented plenty of difficulties, it has also been a sweet time. Throughout multiple rounds of quarantining and months of limiting outside contact, we as a family have been able to have a closeness that our "normal" lives would likely not permit. This closeness comes with its own set of challenges, but we are grateful for the good it has provided our growing family.

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:" - Ecclesiastes 3:1
Young Adult Retreat
Unfortunately CYAK as a ministry has still been unable to host most things in person. This puts a huge twist on our retreats (as we met over Zoom again), but doesn't remove their value. This retreat was focused on Listening and Responding to God. Over three sessions our discussion panel engaged the topic referencing their personal experiences, cultural aspects, and scriptural footings.
The elected panel was quite varied, offering viewpoints from different age groups, genders, and ethnicities. This diverse feedback provided numerous perspectives and fueled intense conversation around what it means to listen to, and then respond to God. On a casual note, we were also led in a step-by-step mountain painting  that offered some repose.
"Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity..." - Hebrews 6:1
Tough Talks

Both the Young Adult Retreat and our weekly House study have born fruit and been the catalyst for some great conversation. Unfortunately, these conversations can also be harmful. We are constantly feeling the tension of speaking truth without pushing people away. This process makes me think of the Proverb referencing iron sharpening iron. In this analogy we are not the smith, we are the iron, and we are honing one another through a process that involves much friction, having pieces of ourselves ground off as we learn to closer follow Christ.

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." - Proverbs 27:17
Injury Update

For those who may be unaware, on October 1st the perfect combination of carelessness and misfortune left me (Karl) with a broken elbow. Surgery was required and involved a good bit of hardware. After 14 weeks of physical therapy, I am finally getting back to something resembling normalcy. Thanking God for good doctors and his care in all of this.

Support Update
Honestly, we are not entirely sure where we are currently in regards to support. We've had a few new financial supporters and some that have been unable to continue, as well as some one-time donations. It is hard to find an accurate measure of where exactly things stand.  That being said, we are not going without; the Lord continues to provide. As always, we are immensely grateful to you for all of the support we receive. We could not do this work without you.
