Financial Aid: Navigating the FAFSA

Now is the time to file your student's FAFSA for the next academic year! The FAFSA for the 2021-2022 academic year opens on October 1, and our priority filing date is January 15. In order to meet the requirements of the January 15 priority filing date, the Financial Aid Office must have your student's FAFSA on file, as well as any other requested documentation. When you are completing the FAFSA, make sure to have your 2019 tax information available, as this is the tax year information to use for the 2021-2022 FAFSA.

If you have questions about anything regarding the FAFSA filing process, the Financial Aid Office is happy to assist. They can be reached at (540) 831-5408. Additionally, you can follow their Facebook page. The page offers important information and reminders on a weekly basis to help keep you up to date on financial matters.

Academic Advising: Spring Registration

While it may seem like the fall semester just began, registration for spring classes is right around the corner! Our professional academic advisors have provided the following information to ensure you and your student are prepared when registration begins.

  • Registration for Spring 2020 begins on October 26. All students must meet with their academic advisor to receive a PIN number in order to register. Students are encouraged to make their appointment early.
  • Students should check their account in the MyRU portal to see if they have any holds that will prevent registration. Holds such as parking tickets, library fines, and health records, among others, can prevent students from registering.
  • Mid-term grades will be available in the MyRU portal on October 5. If your student has a grade below C, encourage them to meet with their academic advisor to discuss resources, strategies, or a potential course withdrawal.
  • The deadline to withdraw from an individual course is Friday, October 16 at 5:00 pm. Course withdrawals require approval from an academic advisor. Please contact your student’s advising center or the Academic Success Center for questions about withdrawing.

Housing & Residential Life: Boarding Policy & Room Selection Process

  • As you begin to talk with your student about housing plans for the 2021-2022 academic year, please keep the On Campus Boarding Policy in mind. All first time, first semester students under the age of 21 are required to live in Radford University operated housing for at least four consecutive full semesters. Radford University has many housing options available for returning students to select from, including super suites and a variety of apartments. For more information on the policy, please visit our website

  • We are working on the room selection process for the 2021-2022 academic year and will be communicating that information to students within the next month or two. Please encourage them to check their Radford University email frequently and to contact our office, located in Heth Hall, or call us at (540) 831-5375 if they have questions about housing options for the next academic year.

Dining Services: Reminders & Updates

Our team's priority has been to provide all students, faculty, and staff with a valuable dining experience, higher safety measures, and innovative dining events. We have been updating our dine-on-campus page and social media channels frequently, so make sure you are following along for important updates. We have also been publishing a dining newsletter. Each newsletter will be available here and will also be published to our social media channels (@radfordudining).

Important Reminders:

  • Masks are required in ALL dining facilities. We have provided dots in every location for students to stand on 6 feet apart from each other, and we ask that those who are not relatives or roommates do not sit together.
  • We are now hiring motivated, energetic individuals who are looking for hourly or full-time supervisor positions, starting as soon as possible. Students can apply here today!
  • Meal Plan purchases and refunds are processed through the ONE card office.

Student Perspective: Tennyson's Story

Tennyson Trice, a junior media studies major, was able to find his true passion during his time at Radford University.

Radford feels like my home away from home. But back when I first got here three years ago, I wasn't sure what I wanted to study. Now, I have been able to study and further develop a passion for film, communication, and music. Since Radford is a smaller campus, I have even developed relationships with my professors and they are always there to help me if I need it. To any new students who haven't found their path yet, I would encourage them to be patient and search for what truly inspires them. You will find your passion; don’t be afraid to dream big and work hard for what you want!

Cammie's Corner

One of our main goals of this e-newsletter is to help you feel more connected to our campus community by providing you with information and insight on our campus resources, events, and much more. It's hard to believe that we are already over halfway through this semester! If your student is struggling and needs assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Please know that the Academic Success Center is always a phone call (540-831-2139) or an email away should you ever need anything.
