Over 2000 bachelor students started their education at the Eindhoven University of Technology this month. We welcomed them at TU/e innovation Space during the intro week with the Scrapheap challenge and showed them what we have to offer! And all 700 new master students could work on a challenge in innovation Space during their intro week. Now they should have the right mindset to start a project in innovation Space. Looking for a hands-on interdisciplinary and challenging course? Check out the study guide here. We hope to welcome you to our community!

Greek Prime Minister visiting
TU/e innovation Space

We already knew that TU/e innovation Space, the strategic education initiative of the Eindhoven University of Technology, enjoys worldwide interest. But this was the first time that we had the honor to welcome a prime minister. The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, flew directly from Athens to Eindhoven Airport to visit innovation Space. And he was not alone: a caravan of seven limousines with staff, armed bodyguards, film crews and police motor escorts parked just in front of our Matrix building on the university campus. After being warmly welcomed by Robert-Jan Smits, president of the TU/e, and an introduction by managing director Alfons Bruekers about TU/e innovation Space, some of our student teams held pitches for the prime minister. Eliene Rutten (SensUs), Dirk van Meer (team CORE), Michiel Roelofs (Taylor) and Bas Verkaik (Spike) showed a nice sample of the things we are proud of at the TU/e.

Our holiday in 4 pictures!
We hoped you had a great summer full of sun, drinks and time to relax to be fully recharged for the new year! This was our summer:

Who are the innoSpacers?

Last semester we conducted a big project: data collection of our project team members. In total around 130 people from 25 teams filled out the survey which information was turned into pretty infographics... here we go:
Demographic info: talking about diversity, we have 11 nationalities represented among team members, how cool is that?! Of course, the majority of students are from the Netherlands and most people from North Brabant and Limburg regions.
Departments: You would wonder from which faculties we attract students from... guess what, from all of them! Clearly the department of IE&IS is leading, and Electrical Engineering and Industrial Design follows. Who knows, it might change in the future?
Journey: How did our teams join innoSpace? Good question. Interesting, most of the teams started up with an individual initiative! So proud of that! Describing innoSpace with one word... So many great answers, look at the word cloud, the bigger the word the more people said it. Community is the biggest, that can't be a coincidence!
Coffee: Curious how much coffee fuels all this innovation? The majority of people drink up to 2 cups of coffee per day. Of course, we also know how to party! Our dear community is also pretty impressive at beer drinking... you gotta know how to unwind once in a while, or maybe 24 times a month ;)

Students competing for best rheumatism sensor during SensUs Innovation Day
On Friday the 30th of August, the SensUs Innovation Day took place! 14 teams from 14 different countries from all over the world came to Eindhoven to present their biosensor to the world. This year’s goal was to measure the concentration of adalimumab, one of the most used drugs in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. During the day, the teams gave pitches, measured in blood plasmas and inspired the 300 live and 22.000 online visitors worldwide. Furthermore, workshops and postgraduate courses were given about health and disease, which made the event interesting for everyone. The competing teams worked on their sensors for a year and were judged by a professional jury. Team TEST from the TU/e measured the most accurate, which resulted in the first prize on Analytical Performance. TEST won the award for Creativity as well, for the most novel applications and mechanisms that were used in the biosensor.
SensUs will now start with the preparations of the fifth edition, SensUs 2020. This new and exciting edition will be focused on improving the treatment of Epilepsy.
Success for team Ignite
Besides enjoying the holidays the past few weeks, Team IGNITE was busy drilling and sawing 18.000 holes in 1 kilometer of aluminum! At this moment, 150 of 172 cubes are assembled and ready for the next step: lights. Next week the LEDs will arrive and the electronics can be placed. Interested in their progress? Make sure to follow IGNITE on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates. During GLOW 2019, which will take place from the 9th until the 16th of November, you can find Hypar in the center of Eindhoven, namely the Market Square! More information about Hypar and GLOW can be found on their website.

A warm welcome to...
PREA has started on their urban-farming project last year. This followed from the desire to contribute towards a sustainable, reliable food supply. During the course ‘Entrepreneurship in action’, they discovered the potential of an urban farming service, in which they both provide an urban farming tool and an online trading platform for the customers. They have been working on this concept since and are greatly enthusiastic about the coming period in Innovation Space as a trial-team! If you are interested in joining this team or have any other questions, please contact Job Harweg. is the new independent review platform for students to find an internship that suits them. Based on what the student finds important and his/her educational background, internship vacancies and companies are recommended where Youply expects the match to be the best. This match is established on the basis of an algorithm that is being developed together with the TU/e. Companies pay to be put in contact with the trainees, they facilitate the search and the first contact between trainee and company. Youply is currently expanding the platform into a functional whole and collaborations are being started with the first schools. The Youply startup team expects to receive reviews via these schools and based on these internship reviews other students can base their choice of internship. Innovation Space helps Youply to take the first steps to a successful startup.
