JULY, JULY!

Anyone else have a Decemberists earworm?  July is upon us, and so is the monsoon season!  If it's too wet or stormy to go outside, why not stay in and plan your latest project?  Then come to see us at the store!  We have some fun yarns and events coming for you this month, including "Christmas in July" (about which see more below).  Whatever is making your July fun, we hope that yarn is a part of it.

NEW YARN!

This month we have an exciting new yarn for you.  Siren Yarn Co is a collaboration between two sisters, one a yarn store owner in Oregon, the other a dyer here in Santa Fe.  We're very pleased to offer their alpaca/silk/merino blend, a luscious DK-weight yarn suitable for hats, scarves, cowls, or even a very special sweater.

Also new to the shop are magnetic brooches from a local consignor (okay, me).  I couldn't find a wholesale source for these, so I decided to make my own!  I accept custom orders, so inquire at the shop about having your perfect brooch made.  These clever shawl "pins" use magnets instead of sharp points--meaning that your accessories and garments stay hole-free (and you don't get jabbed).  Here are just a few examples:

Dyer Wendy of Mesa Roja Designs knitted an Autumn in Taos shawl in her own yarn and also dyed some for us to share.  There are two kits remaining, each including the yarn and pattern, so don't delay in getting yours.

HOLIDAY HOURS

Just a reminder that on Thursday, July 4, the store will close at 3 PM (although if you stop by later, there might be a few of us hanging around . . .)  Normal hours will resume at 10 AM on Friday, July 5, and there WILL be stitching group from 2-5 on Saturday, July 6.  Otherwise, CKYC will maintain the same hours and stitching group schedule throughout the summer.  (We're open 10-6 daily with stitching group 4:30-7:30 on Thursdays and 2-5 on the first and third Saturdays of the month.)    After stitching group on Saturday, July 20, we'll hold the Annual Membership Meeting.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY!

At this time of year, many of us fiber people are longing for cold, snow, and the cozy warmth of knitting or crochet in our laps.  CKYC thought that December was just too far away, so we decided to create our own winter at the height of summer!  On Saturday, July 20th, from 10-5 we're going to crank up the AC, play some festive music, and wear our ugliest sweaters!  All bulky and super-bulky yarns will be 15% off all day, so you can get launched on your holiday gift knitting!  (Don't celebrate Christmas?  You're welcome to join us regardless--all you need to celebrate is fun, friendship, and discounted yarn.)  Snacks and camaraderie will be the order of the day.  Once again, the event lasts from 10-5.  Hope to see you there!

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

After our "Christmas in July" all-day event on Saturday, July 20, we'll close the store to the public and hold our annual meeting of all members and subscribers of Close-Knit Yarn Co-op.  This is your chance to "sit in" on a board meeting--you'll see the board at work and have a chance to offer comment and suggestions on how the co-op is doing and where it should go next.  The meeting will begin at 5 PM and last for approximately one hour.

FEATURED FINISHED OBJECTS!

July's FFO is a twofer.  I made a Shroom hat just for fun, and Antonia liked it so much that she asked Jane to make her one, too!  I used the yarn called for in the pattern, Spud & Chloë Outer, and Jane's version, modeled by Antonia, was knitted in a beautiful chunky silk/merino blend dyed by our own Valentina Devine.  Both yarns are available at the store, and Outer will be on sale during Christmas in July!

CLASSES!

Here's what's coming up in July and August.  Our class schedule changes often in response to real life, and we add new classes all the time.  Make sure you're up-to-date by checking the website: https://closeknityarncoop.com/ or Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CloseKnitYarn/.  To sign up for a class, call the store during business hours, send an email, reach out via Facebook message, or come on by.  Remember that CKYC subscribers get a 20% discount on all class fees and that classes with no enrollees 48 hours before class start will be canceled.
