Oh so many things!  Our beautiful New Mexico landscape, our supportive Los Alamos community, and, most of all, YOU, our wonderful co-op members and subscribers!  It's hard to believe, but we've been open for over a year now, and we're ready to party.  Keep reading for details of our anniversary celebration on Saturday, November 2.  We're also planning another special event for you this in collaboration with Bliss, LA's premier gift and tea emporium--keep watching our Facebook and your inbox for details on that as well.  Last but not least, make sure to check the schedule below for information on holiday closures and sales.  A big thank-you to everyone who's kept us in business this year, and may we see many more to come!

Happy crafting!

Mary and the CKYC Board
The relentless march of time and new yarn goes on.  Cascade 220 Superwash Merino is one of their newer yarns, and brand-new to us at CKYC.  This machine-wash and -dry light worsted-weight version of Cascade Yarns' popular 220 yarn is made from incredibly soft merino wool--guaranteed itch-free!  We have 27 colors in stock (and a few more on the way).  There are 220 yards to the 100g skein, and each skein sells for $13.00.

Wendy of Mesa Roja Designs brought in a giant batch of sock yarn for us a few weeks ago.  In addition to favorites like Raven and Unicorn, she's already thinking about the holidays and brought us Pumpkin Spice AND Candy Cane!  All Mesa Roja yarn sells for $25.00 and makes great socks.

When we restocked Universal Yarn last week, we also added in a brand-new sock yarn, Pix.  Pix is a blend of 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon, with 459 yards to the 100g skein, and sells for $16.50.  We have all eight colorways, and aren't they fun?  We also added restocks on Classic Shades Sequins Lite and Adore, and filled up the Classic Shades Frenzy shelves again for the cold weather.

And finally, we once again have lots of new books!  These are just a handful of what we've added recently, so come and see all of them for yourself.

We've officially been open for a full year!  This coming Saturday, November 2, is our all-day party, from 10 AM to 5 PM (yes, as in tomorrow!)   Co-op subscriptions will be $45 for those wishing to renew (or buy a brand-new one).  This is a 10% discount and an excellent way to show your support for CKYC.  And, same as last year, we'll be asking you to fill out a survey to tell us what we're doing right and what we could improve.  All survey responses will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate!  (And keep watching for a link to an online version--no need to be present to win.)  Come enjoy food, fun, and friends!

We still have a few slots left in an upcoming class for those who participated in Sockapalooza.  If you have tubes to knit and don't know what to do, get in touch with us (details on how to do so are under "classes and events" below) and we'll set you up.

On Friday, November 15, from 4-6 PM, we'll have a class on knitting felted slippers.  These make a quick and personal gift, and they're a lot of fun to make.  You can use one of several patterns available at CKYC, but these Felted Clogs are probably the most popular.  Click the link for pictures!

Pictured: a tube turned into a sock complete with afterthought heel and contrast toe and cuff.

We're all about hats this month at CKYC.  Antonia's beautiful hats are crocheted in yarn dyed by Los Alamos' own Valentina Devine--the pink and grey is pure silk, and the blue and purple is a silk/wool blend.  So soft and lovely!  The Tasseled Fair Isle Hat from 60 More Quick Knits is our latest store sample in 220 Superwash Sport, and isn't it cute?

Just a note to remind everyone of our upcoming holiday hours.  On Wednesday, November 27, we'll be open 10-4, and then we'll be closed completely on Thursday, November 28, for Thanksgiving.  On Friday, November 29, we'll have regular hours (10-6), and the same (10-3) for Small Business Saturday on November 30!

Here's what's coming up in November.  Our class schedule changes often in response to real life, and we add new classes all the time.  Right now Beginning Knitting and Crochet are scheduled by appointment only.  Make sure you're up-to-date by checking the website: or Facebook page:  To sign up for a class, call the store during business hours at (505)662-1416, send an email to, reach out via Facebook message, or come on by.  Remember that CKYC subscribers get a 20% discount on all class fees and that classes with no enrollees 48 hours before class start will be canceled
