Hooray!  Hooray!

It's cloudy and windy!  We can wear our old sweaters and start knitting new ones out of cozy wool.  Sometimes I wonder if autumn is our favorite season because we're knitters, or if we become knitters because autumn is already our favorite season . . . is it inevitable?

Either way, we're still knitting-along on the So Faded sweater--and we have exciting kits in a BRAND-NEW yarn from Blue Sky Fibers for an October colorwork KAL!

We also have other new yarns in stock, including Fashion Modern Tweed Aran, the hit of our August yarn tasting!

Other events coming in October are In-Person Stitching Group(!!), a new round of Finish or Frog, and Trick-or-Treat on Main Street!

If you'd rather cozy up and knit than venture out in the rain, why not browse  Local delivery is still free!

Mary and the CKYC Board

Say hello to Fashion Modern Tweed Aran!  This deliciously soft and cozy yarn is a blend of 60% wool, 20% nylon, and 20% viscose, so it won't be too warm or heavy--just perfect!  Each 50g skein has 104 yards and retails for $8.  Pictures also don't do justice to the tweed--you have to see it in person . . . but if that's not possible, shop Modern Tweed Aran online here:

Jill of Enchanted Sky Fibers is still dyeing, with beautiful results!  She recently brought us in a new batch of Shazamm, her worsted-weight blend of 30% alpaca, 70% wool.  (As always, all Jill's yarns are milled from fiber from her own alpacas!)  With 110 yards to 100g, this yarn makes beautifully squishy hats, scarves, and even sweaters.  Shop Shazamm online here:

And finally the wait is over: Blue Sky Fibers' Woolstok Light is here!  This is a fingering-weight version of the popular Woolstok Worsted; 100% wool with 218 yards to each 50g skein.  There are fourteen colors--given a unique and beautiful sheen by the singles put-up--and we have all of them!  Knit a FREE Henrico Hat pattern to try Woolstok Light, and then join us in October for an exciting colorwork KAL!  Shop Woolstok Light online here:

To celebrate the release of Woolstok Light, Blue Sky Fibers is offering their Bainbridge Tam and Cowl patterns FREE to customers of participating local yarn stores!  Buy the yarn through CKYC, receive a download code for both patterns (activates October 4), and post and tag pictures of your finished tam and cowl to BSF's social media for a chance to win prizes.  The colorways pictured are Highland Fleece, Spun Gold, Rusted Roof, Red Rock, and Midnight Sea; purchase them individually here:

If you'd prefer a hard copy of the pattern (and a project bag!), we also have kits available:

This autumn, we're holding a special Holiday Edition of Finish or Frog!

The summary:  FINISH or FROG your oldest UFOs (unfinished objects) any time between now and December 31.  Submit photos on our Facebook event in order to be entered for prizes!

The details: What makes it a HOLIDAY FINISH or FROG? FINISH or FROG something FESTIVE or GIFTY! Got half a sweater for a baby who just got her driver's license? FINISH that sweater and find a new baby to appreciate it! Started a Christmas stocking in 1992 only to discover that intarsia is The Worst? FROG that stocking and sleep in peace tonight.
FINISH requirements: finish it all the way! That means weaving in all the ends, sewing on the buttons, binding the quilt (oh yes, quilters we're looking at you too), knotting and twisting the fringe, plying and washing the yarn--everything you need to do to make an FO out of a UFO! It could also mean converting a sweater to a vest, a quilt to a cushion cover, a crocheted afghan to a big cozy shawl . . . the goal is a finish you feel good about. Then post a picture in this FINISH or FROG event.
FROG requirements: pulled out that sweater from 30 years ago and decided it won't fit anybody and dolman sleeves were a mistake anyway? Take a before photo and then FROG THAT SUCKER. (We call it "frogging" because you "rip-it rip-it." Sounds like "ribbit"?) Then take an after photo of your pile of yarn (quilt squares, loom waste) and post both photos in the FINISH or FROG event, and tell us what you're going to do with the reclaimed material. Knit something new? Donate it? Throw it away? All paths valid!
Every entry in FINISH or FROG will be entered into a drawing for PRIZES, which include CKYC gift cards and yarns generously donated by our members.
Start rummaging through that project pile today and get FINISHing or FROGging!

That's right!  Every kid's favorite event, Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, is back!  This year the event occurs on Friday, October 29, and CKYC will be handing out spooky treats from 4-6 PM.  Our candy distributors will be outdoors, masked, and vaccinated, so come enjoy a festive and safe evening!

What's this?  Why yes, it's a CKYC branded gift card!  We now have our own official gift cards for in-store purchase.  These cards can be reused and recharged, and they're good forever.  What a great gift for the yarn aficionado in your life!  (Due to technical limitations, the physical cards can't be purchased online, but they're otherwise fully interchangeable with the online versions.)

Michaela knitted this beautiful cardigan from Cascade Heritage, proving that you don't have to spend a fortune to create an heirloom handknit!  The pattern is Jaycee by Isabell Kraemer.   (CW: Ravelry link.)
