WE'RE OPEN!

Close-Knit is once again open to the public!  As of May 16 our doors are open, with a few changes to protect our friends and customers.  Pursuant to the current public health order (read it here), we are restricted to 25% of maximum occupancy as defined by the fire marshall.  Practically, that means about ten people may be in the store at any one time, including employees.  If this number is reached, there will be a sign on the door, and we ask that customers form a line outside and maintain social distancing.  (We haven't had to do this yet, but we want everyone to be prepared if we do.)

We also ask that all customers wear a mask and wash their hands immediately upon entering the store.  Several friends of the Co-op are making masks for sale; feel free to email or message Mary for their contact info.

For the moment, all groups and events will have to remain virtual, but we're staying in touch on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CloseKnitYarn), and for those who want to shop at home, our webstore is still fully operational (https://closeknityarncoop.com/
)  We are also still offering curbside pickup and free local delivery--we want you to feel comfortable and stay safe!

We are back to our usual opening schedule (10-6 Tuesday-Friday, 10-3 Saturday), and a yarn expert will be at the store every Thursday and Friday.

Thank you for your support and patience!

Mary and the CKYC Board

NEW YARN (AND MORE)!

Mary is currently plotting summer yarn orders after our successful virtual yarn tasting.  In the meantime, some of our beloved local dyers have dropped off new shinies for you.

Wendy of Mesa Roja has dyed up some new sock yarn, including this interesting new tweedy base (it's a blend of superwash merino and cotton/acrylic nepps).

And Jill of Enchanted Sky has dyed up some beautiful combed top processed from the fleece of her own alpacas!  We also have a few undyed braids in stock.

WEBSTORE REMINDERS

Just your period review of things that make life easier for you and our employees.

If you're an existing customer, please use the email address we have on file for you to create an account in the webstore.  This will automatically link your webstore account to your in-store account, so all your purchases will be conveniently saved and tracked together!  This also enables us to keep track of your discounts or credits if you're a co-op subscriber.  (If you're not sure which email we have, just reach out to Mary and she'll look it up for you.)

Many pictures and descriptions are still missing, (this is a one-woman operation for the most part) but anything listed as in stock is available for purchase, including books, patterns, needles, hooks, and notions.  Certain items need to be purchased via a custom listing just because of technical fiddliness (such as buttons and gift certificates) but are absolutely available--just send us an email or Facebook message and we'll get it sorted.

Local delivery to Los Alamos and White Rock is still FREE; just select the option at checkout.  And of course we're always happy to take phone orders at (505) 662-1416.

FEATURED FINISHED OBJECT

I haven't been able to take any in-person photos for some time, so this week you get one of mine.  (Bring them in!  We can have a socially-distanced photo shoot!  Don't let this turn into Mary's blog!  There will be too many terrible puns!)  The Magical Thinking "pullover shawl" calls for three colors of fingering weight yarn--I used Cascade Heritage and Heritage Wave, but we have plenty of other options as well.  This was a fun knit (even if I did whine about the ribbing), and it used just about a thousand yards for the large size.

MONDAY MAILBAG SUBMISSIONS REQUESTED

We're still answering questions every Monday on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CloseKnitYarn.  Send those questions to closeknityarncoop@gmail.com (or our FB inbox), and you could be featured!  Expert knitters Mary and Doris will tackle your question, write a response, and post it for all the world to see.  All questions welcome, none too big or too small.

VIRTUAL OPEN STITCHING GROUP!

We are still virtually stitching each week (we're looking into possible outdoor, socially-distanced groups later in the summer).  Please join us!  We are maintaining the regular schedule of every Thursday from 4:30-7:30 MDT and first and third Saturdays from 2-5 MDT.  We're using Zoom, a web-meeting platform that's simple and free.  If you're using a desktop computer, simply click the link below when it's time to start.  If you're using a tablet or smartphone, you'll need to install the "Zoom Cloud Meeting App" (which you can find in the app store or Google Play store).  You can even simply call in voice only to say hello with your cell phone or landline.

These invitations are also linked on the store website and Facebook page.  As always, group is free and open to all and occurs on a drop in/drop out basis (no need to stay the full three hours).  We hope you will join us.

P.S. some have expressed concern over the security of Zoom.  CKYC has reviewed our communication options and maintains that Zoom is the best and easiest way to stay connected during this time.  The company continues to make security improvements, and we have every confidence that the program may be used safely.  Remember that you do not need to install the app to use Zoom on a desktop browser or landline phone.
