JUNE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE KNITTING THIS MONTH?

Summer has finally come to Los Alamos, and we have some great new yarns and classes for your knitting pleasure.  For some of us, summer means fewer opportunities for knitting; we're out in the yard getting our gardens into shape or busy watching kids released from school and ready to play.  I recommend a fun summer top (or two) which will knit up quickly in your limited time.  For others of us, summer means more knitting, since we have fewer educational or social obligations--all three of my choirs are on summer hiatus!  If this is true for you, why not take on a challenge?  Learn to knit something new, like socks, or tackle a next-level lace project with the Semele shawl.

Whatever your summer knitting goals and dreams, we're here to help fulfill them.  Stop by and see us!

NEW YARN!

As always, we have new yarn for you in June.  First up are two new lines which debuted at Fiber Crawl in May.  Cascade Heritage Wave is a gradient/long-color-change version of the popular Heritage Sock yarn, and the two are fully interchangeable.  Wave is 75% Superwash Merino Wool/ 25% Nylon with 437 yards per 100 gram skein and sells for $14.00.

The second Fiber Crawl debut is Sarasota, also from Cascade Yarns.  Sarasota is a DK-weight 60% Cotton/ 40% Acrylic blend with 314 yards to 100 grams and sells for $6.50 per skein.  This is a great budget-friendly yarn for those fun summer tops I mentioned above.

Finally, we have Bamboo Pop Sock, which is a fingering-weight version of the popular Bamboo Pop.  It's the same cotton/bamboo rayon blend we love, plus a little PBT for strength and elasticity, and it's only $9.00 for 100 grams!  (A pair of hand-knit socks for $9.00?  Wow!)  It's also a great wool-free alternative for baby knitting.

Get yours before they're gone!
FEATURED FINISHED OBJECT!

June's FFO is Wendy's Monbo Cardigan in Cascade Ultra Pima.  Wendy used six skeins of color 3739 Lime to make the small size--but it's an oversized top for sure (so you might be able to use fewer skeins for a more fitted version).  Drop by the store to see it on display.  If you want to make your own, you can buy the pattern through CKYC via Ravelry's In-Store Sales program.  Ask about the details!
HOLIDAY HOURS

CKYC will maintain the same hours and stitching group schedule throughout the summer.  (As a reminder, we're open 10-6 daily with stitching group 4:30-7:30 on Thursdays and 2-5 on the first and third Saturdays of the month.)  There's only one Saturday group in June (on the 15th), as we're taking the fifth Saturday off.  On Thursday, July 4, the store will close at 3 PM in celebration of Independence Day, and there will be NO stitching group that evening.  Normal hours will resume at 10 AM on Friday, July 5, and there WILL be stitching group from 2-5 on Saturday, July 6.  Thanks!
CLASS: SEMELE LACE SHAWL

Have you knit some basic lace and are ready for a challenge?  Or are you an experienced lace knitter who wants to explore new techniques and construction?  This class is for you!  We will begin the beautiful Semele shawl, designed by the fabulous Åsa Tricosa--follow the Ravelry link for many examples and pictures.  The pattern calls for lace- or fingering-weight, but is highly adaptable and great for rare and special yarn (it's shown here in handspun).  This two-hour, single-session class is FREE with purchase of materials (yarn and pattern) and will take place Friday, June 7, from 4-6 PM.  Stop by the store beforehand and we'll help you choose the perfect yarn!
SHAWL KITS!

We still have some kits from the Fiber Crawl remaining.  Each kit features a skein of Mesa Roja yarn dyed exclusively for CKYC, a Lapstrake shawl pattern, and a handmade magnetic shawl brooch; a $40 value for only $30!  Get yours today.
CLASS: INTRODUCTION TO LACE KNITTING

Do you find lace intimidating?  This is the class for you!  The easy pattern (included) makes a “feather and fan” scarf that is 6 to 8 inches wide and a couple of yards long. If you can count to 17, you can make this!  We will discuss various tips and tricks that make knitting lace easier: pointy needles, lifelines, stitch markers. We’ll also discuss the magic of blocking.  This two-hour, single session class is $40 or FREE with purchase of materials and will take place on Sunday, June 23rd, from 2-4 PM.
