Due to COVID-19 The Sarnia Legion was forced to close its doors on March 14th. I, along with the rest of the Executive hope everyone is well and taking care of themselves in these unknown times.
The Executive continues to meet and assess the latest information regarding this pandemic. As of this letter, the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 continues to remain closed to the public. Our Executive will continue to monitor the situation and will act upon recommendations from the Government of Ontario, Lambton Public Health and Sarnia Emergency Management.
We look forward to seeing our members when things return to normal. Catch the Ace is currently on hold and the Progressive Jackpot remains in place.
If you are a Veteran or know of a Veteran or their family member who is need of assistance, the Sarnia Legion Branch is here and able to serve. Simply call the Sarnia Legion Branch at 519-336-2841. This number is forwarded to an Executive Member, who will be able to assist.
The Sarnia Legion Executive has been meeting online via Zoom. Due to our Executive limitations, we are only able to donate $500.00 to charities without the vote of the General Membership input. Last month we donated $500.00 to each of the following local Charities:
- Inn of the Good Shepard
- St, Vincent de Paul
- Salvation Army Salvation
- The Hub
- Sexual Assault Survivor
- Woman’s Interval Home
The Sarnia Legion performed a virtual 'Victory in Europe Day' celebration on May 8. Because we live in a strange world these days, the service was performed during a snap snowstorm that ended the moment we finished. We Live Streamed this event on Facebook and on our Web page. The event was streamed by The Video Show Network here. The flyover took place later and we were thankful to the pilots of 403 Honour Flight who flew over the Long Term Care Homes and the Hospitals in Sarnia.
This past weekend we held a virtual Decoration Day. You can view this on our facebook page.
As Ontario enters Stage 3, we will keep our membership informed as we are advised on the latest developments. The Sarnia Legion is financially capable to pay our bills and keep the building maintained until such time that it is safe to open.
As stated above, I sincerely hope this letter finds everyone well and please stay safe.
Yours in Comradeship,
