Brothers in Christ
Rick, a man who was living in a halfway house for the last seven months, recently moved into his own place this week. When Rick first came to us he would sit in the back of the room and keep to himself. Now, he is a man with a family and a Father who loves him. And it shows, just last week he was scrubbing the church bathroom floor on his hands and knees, he has a true servants heart.
When looking for a place to rent it was a prerequisite for Rick that it be near our apartment church, for as Rick likes to say, this is family to him! James, a Deacon at our church, who himself lives in a rooming house, has been looking out for Rick ever since he started to come. In fact, they look out for each other. While trying to find a room to rent, James took Rick under his wing. James took Rick with him to social service agencies in the area and made it happen.
It is wonderful to witness two men, both coming out of incarceration, carrying each others burdens. When one is down and needs the other they are there for each other without hesitation. This is just one example of people living in dire and difficult conditions giving each other hope through a shared brotherhood found in Christ.
