Happy Holidays from the Wayne County Foundation!

As 2020 draws to a close, the Wayne County Foundation would like to wish you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday season filled with warmth, laughter, and good health in the coming weeks.

Though our community has faced unparalleled challenges during the past year, we cannot thank you enough for your support of the Foundation's mission to enhance the spirit of our community, and to improve the quality of life for those in Wayne County. Here's to a safe and prosperous 2021!
Foundation Welcomes Alex Painter as Community Engagement Officer

The Wayne County Foundation welcomes Alex Painter to the Foundation's team to serve in a newly created role of Community Engagement Officer. “I am excited to have Alex join the team, along with his passion and professional expertise, to engage with the people across Wayne County,” said Rebecca Gilliam, Executive Director.

Alex is a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana and arrived in Wayne County in 2006 as a first-year student at Earlham College. Since graduating from Earlham in 2010, Alex has worked exclusively for Wayne County-based nonprofit organizations. He joined the staff of the Richmond Family YMCA in early 2011, where he oversaw the youth sports programming, as well as assisted in fundraising and grant writing.

Since 2013, Alex has worked in the Admissions Office at Earlham, most recently rising to the role of Associate Director of Recruitment Operations. Alex found true fulfillment in working with families in Wayne County while with the YMCA and Earlham. “I am looking forward to the new opportunity at the Wayne County Foundation, where I can deepen my passion for Wayne County, develop new relationships while fostering existing ones, and work to make a large impact in our community,” said Painter.

Alex began his new role at the Foundation on December 1.

Foundation Receives Board Engagement Grant from Lilly Endowment

The Wayne County Foundation has received a $100,000 grant as part of the seventh phase of Lilly Endowment Inc.'s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VII) community foundation initiative. This unrestricted grant can be used for any charitable purpose the Foundation chooses.

“The Foundation board is great! This year they have really worked to address the needs in the community as well as honoring the intentions of our donors. I am thankful for the incredible leadership they provide to the Wayne County Foundation.” said Executive Director Rebecca Gilliam.

The funds build on a $150,000 Community Leadership Grant from GIFT VII awarded to the Foundation in October.

Year-End Giving Reminders

The CARES Act, signed into law in March of this year, includes several special incentives to support your favorite public charity. These include:

  • A new deduction for donors who do not itemize when filing their tax return.  If you do not itemize but make a gift to charity, you will be allowed to take a special tax deduction, up to $300, to reduce your tax liability.
  • An increase in the deduction limit up to 100% of a donor’s annual income for cash gifts (previously the deduction was capped at 60% of annual income). If you make a gift you will be able to deduct more this year.

To take advantage of these incentives, your gift must be made to a charitable organization, like the Wayne County Foundation, and be made in 2020.

For specific questions about your tax situation, please consult your financial advisor.

We are especially grateful this year for the foresight of our founders and the power of our endowment that allows Foundation to make a difference in Wayne County. Unrestricted funds enable us to quickly respond to the immediate needs of the community and support future focused projects that will help our community thrive.

As we move forward together, we ask you to consider an unrestricted year-end gift to the Wayne County Foundation. Your contribution helps the Foundation meet the community’s ever-changing needs.
