Hold onto your seats...this newsletter is PACKED with information that will carry you through the next FOUR months. In anticipation of welcoming a new member into the Bonney-Cohen family in the coming weeks, we'll be taking some time off to bond as a family of five.

But not to worry--we won't leave you hanging! Members of the Base BSTN community have stepped up to host a whole lineup of amazing "Off Base" events, ranging from Shabbat & High Holiday meet-ups to Trivia Nights, Virtual Cooking, Outdoor Hikes, and more. Some details are still being confirmed, so sign up for anything that interests you and the hosts will reach out with more information as the time approaches.

And, if you're looking for point person during our time away, KI's Rabbinic Intern Talia Laster (talia@congki.org) is an amazing colleague who will be there to offer pastoral support, rabbinic guidance, and just basic information about what's going on in the broader community. Please don't hesitate to reach out to her with any questions while we're offline.

In addition to her one-on-one support of Basers, Talia is also stepping in to cover a couple sessions of the My Jewish Year learning and she's going to be teaching a four-part series beginning in October called Shabbat: Beyond the 'Day of Rest'.  It's sure to be an enriching series that will bring new layers of meaning to our most precious holiday--register now!

Finally, every year, Base conducts a movement-wide program evaluation to help us assess our impact and identify ways we can continue to improve to meet the needs and desires of our growing community. Please keep your eyes peeled for an email from Base’s external evaluator, Dr. Ezra Kopelowitz, asking you to complete the survey. It should take you 10-15 minutes to complete, and your feedback is invaluable to us. Thank you in advance!

We'll continue to share programming updates monthly, with periodic reminders and notices of new events. You can also follow @RabbiEBC on Instagram, subscribe to our calendar, and check out our website for the most up-to-date information (and Zoom links!). Please note, all times listed are Eastern Time (ET).

All the best,
Rabbi Elizabeth, Matt, Ma'or, & Tziona

Belonging @ KI

As you know, Base BSTN is a Project of KI, a synagogue in the heart of Coolidge Corner that has been a thriving community for over 100 years.  It's been so fun getting to see so many of you there on Shabbat for services & lunchtime learning over kiddush, witnessing intergenerational relationships evolve from mingling to mentorship, celebrating with you in the sanctuary as you mark various lifecycle moments, and kvelling at your roles as prayer leaders, Hebrew School teachers, and board members.  If you've found community at KI through Base BSTN, we hope you'll consider formalizing your place within it by becoming a member. Never joined a synagogue before?  No problem!  It's super easy, and KI's membership runs on a Sustaining Shares model, which means you can determine whatever financial contribution fits you. Plus, with High Holidays on the way, it's nice to know that tickets to services are included in your membership.

My Jewish Year: A Monthly Series

Join with us on an exploration of the Jewish calendar this year.  Using Abigail Pogrebin's "My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays, One Wondering Jew," we'll meet (approximately monthly) throughout the year in advance of (or during!) Jewish holidays to find new meaning in the rhythms and wisdom of Jewish tradition.  Those who commit to attending at least NINE of the eleven sessions will receive a FREE copy of Pogrebin's book. Learn more & register here.

*This is a discussion-based class, facilitated by Base BSTN online (via Zoom), where video & audio participation are encouraged - you will be invited to share your thoughts and speak from personal experience, with no obligation to do so.
MONDAYS, BEGINNING OCTOBER 18TH @ 7:30-8:15PM
Shabbat: Beyond the 'Day of Rest'

To dovetail Base BSTN’s study of My Jewish Year, let’s dive into the “Most Important Jewish Holiday” - Shabbat. Rabbinic Intern Talia Laster will lead in exploring some of the foundational texts that can help us paint a colorful picture of what Shabbat is at its roots.

*We plan to hold all sessions virtually, unless the group decides otherwise. This is a discussion-based class, facilitated by Base BSTN online (via Zoom), where video & audio participation are encouraged - you will be invited to share your thoughts and speak from personal experience, with no obligation to do so.
