Occidental Community Church Family,
1 Timothy 4:1-2
1. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2. Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage - with great patience and instruction.
This was the Scripture which was read at my ordination into the Christian ministry in 1966. For the past 54 years I have "preached the Word" in a variety of ways . . . from the pulpit, in the classroom, both indoors and outdoors, through email, via tape recordings, through interpreters, earlier this year by recording on a cell phone camera, and more. But this coming Sunday, November 15, I am embarking on a new adventure in preaching - live streaming. This will be a first for me and a first for Occidental Community Church as well.
Here in Paul's charge to Timothy he writes, "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season." (v.2). I guess you could say that we are in one of those "out of season" moments. The change of weather has brought our outdoor services at Pleasant Hill Christian School to an end after 5 months. And Sonoma County has not yet opened up enough to allow us to meet indoors. But the proclamation of God's Word goes on, now through live streaming.
Last night a few of us spent two-and-a-half hours at the church setting up the equipment needed to make this a reality. With a few final touches, we should be ready to go this Sunday. We appreciate all your prayers as we get things ready. Here is how you can easily access our live streaming services each week.
1 Peter 1:23-25
23. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God. 24. For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flower of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25.but the Word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the Word that was preached to you.
Trusting in Him,
