dear incite community,
We hope you and those around you are well and, even though these are difficult times, we hope you have been able to find moments of reflection, human connection, inspiration, and creativity.
On behalf of the Editorial Board, we are sorry we did not send this letter out sooner. We are now away from McMaster and scattered across the country in our hometowns, and it took us some time to get our bearings.
We have genuinely loved every moment of leading Incite Magazine this year and felt so privileged to be part of this community. You, our contributors and readers, have inspired and challenged us to do the best job we can to uplift McMaster’s artists and writers, and have continually reinforced the power of creative expression.
Due to the necessary precautions surrounding COVID-19, we have had to make a number of changes to our plans for the remainder of the Volume 22.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions for how we can improve our adjusted plan for Volume 22. We hope that from anxiety can come deep reflection, and from boredom can come creativity. As always, please feel free to share with us what you create.
- The Launch Party for Volume 22 Issue 2: Power has been cancelled.
- Printing for Volume 22 Issue 2: Power has been postponed to September of 2020. Due to store closures, campus closure, and our inability to distribute print copies of the issue, we will be waiting until next year to print Power. In the meantime, we will be publishing the issue online and doing everything in our power to distribute it electronically, so that it may be enjoyed by as many readers as possible. We understand that this may be disappointing news to those who enjoy seeing their work or reading others on cardstock pages, especially those who are graduating this year and won’t be able to pick up a printed copy in September.
- If you contributed to Power and are unable to pick up a printed copy in September, we can send you a copy by mail to anywhere in Canada. We will finance this initiative using the money we would have spent on the Launch Party for Power (in April 2020). Please use the form below to provide your mailing request if you know at this time that you will not be able to pick up your print copy of Power in person.
In the meantime, we leave you with this quote by Kitty O’Meara that has been helpful for us in understanding how to be in this difficult time.
And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.”
– Kitty O’Meara
