1 Day Left to Apply for Incite's 2020-2021 Team!

This is a friendly reminder that applications to volunteer for Incite's 2020-2021 staff team are due this Saturday, August 22nd at 11:59PM EST!

For this upcoming semester, art and the connections that it can foster will be more important than ever before. As McMaster's largest creative arts and writing publication, we're looking forward to empowering and showcasing more student voices in the year ahead—and we hope that you'll join us, whether it's as a content editor, layout editor, or art manager!
Art Managers curate student artwork and produce original artwork for each issue based on its theme and Incite’s brand. They use their creative sense to select appropriate art from a collection of student portfolios for each article. Managing their time wisely, they also create art inspired by written work within tight timelines. Art Managers help expand Incite’s artistic community, constantly engaging with fellow creatives.
Layout Editors apply technical expertise with Adobe InDesign to create spreads for each issue. They collaborate with the Editors-in-Chief, Layout Director, and fellow Layout Editors to ensure that visual cohesion is consistently achieved. They pay close attention to fine details, adapt well to different design contexts, and keep their individual style without losing sight of the Incite brand. Experience with print publications and editorial design is an asset.
Content Editors are collectively responsible for vetting all the writing in a finished issue of Incite. Their primary responsibility is to work one-on-one with student contributors and guide them through the writing process from start to end, ensuring that the best possible version of the piece makes it into the issue. This involves providing constructive feedback, adjusting wording, editing for grammar and punctuation, and providing rationale for the changes made.

About Incite

Est. 1997, Incite Magazine is McMaster University’s independent arts and culture publication featuring personal essays, fiction, poetry, commentary, research, interviews, sketches, photography, paintings, digital art, and more. We aim to foster the growth of a creative community promoting self-expression, collaboration, and dialogue within our university campus and city of Hamilton. Every aspect of Incite’s writing, graphics, layout, video, and event production is carried out by our wonderful student volunteers.

McMaster sits on the traditional territory shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and the Anishinabe nations, which was acknowledged in the Dish with One Spoon wampum belt. That wampum uses the symbolism of a dish to represent the territory, and one spoon to represent that the people are to share the resources of the land and only take what they need.
