Read Incite's new issue, Power, now.

POWER has launched.

It's finally here.

Compiled back in precedented times, Incite volume xxii:ii POWER is one of our largest issues yet. We’re proud to present our second and final issue of the 2019-2020 year, and we hope that you’re just as excited to see the 100+ pieces of original student art and writing brimming from these pages.

In the words of our Editor-in-Chief (Content) for 2019-2020: “This year has been a force to be reckoned with. Wherever you are, we hope that this issue offers what you are looking for — and maybe even a hint of what you didn’t know you needed. Art may not solve every problem, but it remains a powerful way to send a message to ourselves and to others.”

will we be printing copies of this issue?

As previously announced, we will unfortunately be delaying the print release of this issue in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. When we are able to safely resume printing and distribution on-campus (date pending), we will also be shipping copies of the issue to contributors who are unable to pick a copy (mailing to anywhere in Canada), using the funds that would have been spent on a launch party for this issue.

Until then, we hope that you will still enjoy everyone's stellar work in a digital format, and we can’t wait to revisit POWER with you in the future.

amplify black voices campaign

Throughout this month, our Facebook page has highlighted work submitted by Black McMaster Students as part of our Amplify Black Voices campaign.

Of course, this one campaign does not suffice. Coming into the 2020-2021 school year, we’d like to reiterate that our publication is committed to addressing our prior failures as a powerful platform that has neglected to operate with anti-racism as a priority.

We plan on undertaking tangible actions in addressing these failures and creating safe(r) spaces for BIPOC students to express themselves at McMaster, as outlined in our previously published statement:

our statement against anti-Black racism

As stated there, however, these are merely initial steps. We will continue to listen, learn, unlearn, and reflect; it is crucial that we do the work that we have committed to. As the new Editorial Board is transitioning in and we look to begin hiring our 2020-2021 staff team soon, we will prioritize folks from marginalized communities in this process, implement the feedback that has been given to us thus far, and ensure that our commitment goes beyond lip service.
