Happy Thursday!

Three weeks ago, we hosted our first in-person event for The Missing Bits: This was a panel session featuring journalists; Lindy Mtongana, Denis Galava and Parselelo Kantai, in conversation with Baraza Media Lab's curator, Christine Mungai. See what was on in pictures here or if you joined us, share your feedback here!

We are now back this April with a jam-packed day-long event at the mothership, McMillan Memorial Library, on Banda Street. Join us for an exciting panel conversation, film screenings, digitisation stations to archive your personal archives and audio storytelling booths all at the library!

Panel Conversation

For this edition of our panel sessions co-curated with Baraza Media Lab, we will explore the work of digital libraries and archives in capturing cultural memories in the past and in our present, the challenges – and innovative approaches to overcome them that archivists are leaning on, and the lessons we can learn from global libraries in this regard. Join Marcus Olang, Dr. Joyce Nyairo, Chao Tayiana and Raphael Kariuki on Saturday, 23rd April 2022 at 11am for this exciting panel conversation.

Together with Docubox, we present a series of film screenings running at the library and tied to the archive and our collective past. What memories do we hold of objects from our past? Dig in and catch If Objects Could Speak, a film that dives into restitution of Kenyan objects and much more. Have a question for the directors? Catch Renee Akitelek Mboya as she talks about her film, "A Glossary of Words My Mother Never Taught Me."
