January 2022
Dear Community Members,

On behalf of the board and staff of the Federation, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a very happy New Year. I look forward to serving the community as President of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.

We are so fortunate to be a part of such a vibrant, spirited community that is rooted in tradition, and the belief that Kol Israel Harevim Ze La Ze, which means “we are all responsible for one another”. We are stronger when we work together, and Federation will continue to consult with organizations throughout the community and help in any way we can.

Amid the Omicron surge, we reached out to our beneficiary agencies to check in and see how we may render assistance. I would like to commend the organizations in our community as they continue to navigate the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, and above all else, ensure the safety and well-being of our community members.

As COVID-19 continues to challenge the way in which we congregate and engage with one another, we are committed to following public health orders and will continue to prioritize support needed by Jewish organizations in our community.

In addition to monitoring community needs regarding the ongoing pandemic, we must also keep our focus on the future. As the representative body of Winnipeg’s Jewish community, it is up to us, in consultation with our donors, beneficiary agencies, and community to articulate and build upon our vision.

The Federation, and the community, must continually evolve with the times to ensure that we represent and reflect the entirety of our diverse community. Our immediate plans include a review of how we do business, how we engage our community through what we do, and how we engage with the next generation of donors and leaders.

We recognize the importance of formal and informal education, youth initiatives, and the need for more experiential Jewish engagement. With a renewed opportunity to lead Winnipeg-Israel activities and missions, we will continue to advocate for both the Jewish community and Israel.

We have started down this path through engaging Jewish organizations to gather valuable input from key stakeholders on what we do, how we do it, and ways that we can improve in response to the evolving needs of our community.

I look forward to continuing to build on all the great work that has been done so far and look forward to working together over the next two years. Please stay safe and healthy.

Shabbat Shalom,

Gustavo Zentner
