Plenty has been written and said about the Serena Williams match at the U.S. Open, but two commentaries really hit on how and why this was so much more than a tennis issue. In an article for The Cut, Rebecca Traister writes that this actuallly “[is] about the ways in which women’s - and especially nonwhite women’s - dress and bodies and behavior and expression and tone are still deemed unruly if they do not conform to the limited view of femininity established by men, especially if that unruliness suggests a direct threat to male authority. “ I don’t think any statement has so well captured the negative undercurrent of attitude toward women these days - and we’re talking everyday life here, not just tennis. And in an article for Elle, Brittany Packnett explains her biggest takeaway from the controversy: to “demand the apologies you deserve.” A notion so simple yet unimaginable for so many women of color, Latinas included. Who gets to decide how we identify ourselves? Gender identity is a growing cultural topic, but what does it mean to be gender nonbinary? Author Thomas Page McBee answers all  your questions and more. (Them)

One of my favorite Spanish dishes is traditional Pan con Tomate. It’s a simple snack (rustic bread, tomato, olive oil, salt) you can prep at home in minutes and is even a menu staple at Jaleo, the Spanish restaurant of Jose Andres fame. While in Portugal, I made this for my husband’s family and knew I needed to share this easy recipe. Pro tip: slice open a garlic clove and rub it on the bread. Then dice it and add to tomato mixture!

Ibtihaj Muhammad. This is a name to know. If you’re not familiar with her, she became the first female Muslim-American athlete to earn a medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Since then, she has been named one of Time's most influential people, has had a Barbie modeled after her, and has been on the press circuit.

She has an agenda - to push others to celebrate diversity in the US. Plus, she’s 100% unapologetic and thinks you should be, too.
Recently, she sat down with the GirlBoss Podcast to talk all things self-acceptance and the power in a strong mental game.

Faux fur teddy coat
This faux fur teddy coat is a dupe for a $3500 Max Mara coat. If you’ve checked out street style pix, the latest ‘grams from NYFW, or any of the September magazines this season, you have definitely noticed texture! Coats like this are going to be a hot item for 2018-2019 and I love this camel color. It would pair great with a dress and knee high boots. - Bex
Free people up all night bodysuit
I’m so looking forward to wearing all the high-waisted jeans and long-sleeve bodysuits this fall - a combo that’s both flattering and totally on-trend. This Free People ribbed bodysuit in this year’s must-have color is at the top of my shopping list. -Mila
The East Coast is getting pummeled with rain ahead of Hurricane Florence. So we created this Rainy Day Playlist that’s perfect for chilling with a good read.
Imaxtree makeup image
We are loving the toned down makeup looks on the runways for NYFW Spring 2019. One of our favorite shows was Badgley Mischka. We love the overall aesthetic, especially the hints of pink with bronzed dewy skin and neutral eyes. (photo via Imaxtree)
