A Full Summer Programme

Welcome to our end of Summer 2020 update! Despite the continued presence of the pandemic, we have not stopped our progress. In July we welcomed Karen Chessman as our new Centre Manager, as we said a fond farewell to Caroline Hottenbacher as she embarks on new ventures. Karen is now settling in and working with Dan in support of the activities at the Centre.
As of 6th July after a busy period supporting young people during lockdown, the Sylvia Beaufoy Centre 'opened' it's doors. The team here have worked hard to develop a full programme of activities to engage young people in the community following a tough few months of lockdown. Our activities have generated over 200 visits from young people, across the 10-week summer period, which has been a fantastic success.
Activities have been offered four days a week which have enabled some great interaction but also comply with social distancing and COVID19 requirements.
We have been very lucky to receive funding to help us with activities over the summer in support of our community whilst recognising the current pandemic challenges. We offer our thanks to our funders!

Here is what we have been doing.....

Monday's Sports and Fitness Sessions
We have seen a great uptake in our Monday evening sports sessions. Our sports have ranged from volleyball to rounders to cricket and all held on our doorstep in the beautiful Petworth Park.
We have welcomed a few new members to the Club as part of this activity and have had a foot-fall of nearly 60 young people on the sessions throughout the summer.

Tuesday's Art Sessions
Tuesday afternoons have been spent transforming the outside wall of the Centre. With the help of a local artist/designer, a group spent time designing their artwork before putting spray paint to wall. The young people have told their story of COVID19. It is very apparent that social media has been a clear popular theme.
A record of an unusual year!

Wednesday's Greenpower
Wednesday evening's have seen the continuation of the building of our third car. We were lucky enough to have sole use of the Goodwood Motor Circuit for a couple of evenings during the summer holidays and have some further evenings planned in September.
This has allowed us to race all three cars and has given the opportunity for our young people to take on various roles, including driver, team leader and pit crew. This has proved to be an extremely popular activity, with the foot-fall being over 70 across the summer period.
The teams have worked well together and are raring to go for Race Day at Goodwood on 11th October!

Thursday's Orienteering and Mountain-Biking
Our final session of the week has been either orienteering or mountain-biking.
Orienteering has seen teams of 2 or 3 navigate a course around the local area, to compete for top prizes such as vouchers from Best Kebab in Hampers Green or book vouchers!

Mountain-biking has been a new venture and we have been able to provide bikes to those who do not have access to one. Our first trip out was an 11.6 km ride cross-country.

And there's more....
In addition to our full programme, we also had funding to provide some fantastic art packs. These were extremely well-received and appreciated by the young people and their families.

Fundraising
Without funding, we would not be able to provide all that we do. The Sylvia Beaufoy Centre are now registered with easyfundraising, which means you can raise FREE donations for us every time you shop online. Over 4,000 shops and sites will donate to us when you use easyfundraising to shop with them – at no extra cost to yourself! These include top retailers such as Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Argos, and Ebay to name a few.
These donations really mount up and make a BIG difference to us, so we’d really appreciate it if you could take a moment to sign up and support us. It’s completely FREE and only takes a moment.
You can find our easyfundraising page at: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/thesylviabeaufoycentre/?utm_campaign=raise-more&utm_content=gs-e1

In addition, funding can be raised through Amazon Smile, again at no cost to the individual. If you would like to support us whilst doing your online shop, please register at:
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1187451-0

Purchases need to be made via smile.amazon as opposed to just Amazon.

Thank you so much to all our supporters and funders. Without your support we could not have offered the activities over the summer period which have been so well-received by local young people. We are now moving forward with activities into the autumn and the new year!
