Summer 2021

Wow, what a busy summer! We would like to say a massive thank you to our local supporters who kindly donated funds to support an exciting Summer Programme.
In August we took 25 young people for a residential trip to Cornwall. We stayed at a pretty rural farm not far from Truro and had some fantastic days out. All the young people participated in the days out and also were involved in cooking the daily meals, preparing lunch packs and clearing away....a real team effort!
We visited the Eden Project where many of our group took on the Hangloose Challenge - a zip wire above the biodomes. The weather was very kind so all stayed dry!

Whilst in Cornwall we also had a beautiful day in St Ives and went on a seal-watching trip, and also had a great morning at a National Trust site mountain-biking.

Days Out Over the Summer

In addition to our residential trip we also had a number of days out. These included a trip to Go Ape in Southampton (a treetop adventure), a day at the Escape Rooms in Chichester and also racing at Thruxton Motor Circuit. in addition we had a couple of days playing sports in the Pleasure Gardens at Petworth House. All activities were hugely popular and gave the young people a variety of activities to choose from.

Duke Of Edinburgh Award Programme

Our first cohort of 10 young people undertook their Bronze level expedition to the New Forest in July. We are pleased to say that all 10 passed their assessment - a great achievement for our first group! The 10 young people were split into two groups of 5 and were required to hike over two days carrying all of their equipment for the two days and an overnight camp.
We are extremely proud of the group and are now welcoming new young people to join the Bronze and Silver programmes in November. If you require more information please do refer to our website.

Greenpower

Our 2020-21 Greenpower season is drawing to a close with the International Final taking place at Goodwood on Sunday 10th October. All three of our cars have places at the final and we are looking forward to an exciting day.
This year we have already competed at Goodwood, Castle Combe and Dunsfold Park and it is evident that our team are working very well together. This year our team has been 18 strong and for our new season which starts in November, we are increasing the team places to 25. If you know someone aged 11 to 16 who is interested in joining us for the next season, please do visit our website and follow the guidance for booking. There are plenty of roles to play, from driving through to pit crew.

Thank You and Please Support Us!

We could not do any of our activities without the support from our staff, volunteers and donators. A big thank you to all.
We are now into our 2021-22 year and have a number of sessions running each week and will be planning our activities for summer 2022.
If you are interested in volunteering opportunities or making a donation, please do contact Dan or Karen or visit the website. The Centre can only operate with the support it receives, so SBC thanks all of its supporters!

In addition, any donations made thought local company, English Woodlands Timber based in Cocking, will be matched up to the value of £5k, thereby giving SBC a great opportunity to raise up to £10k!
