 TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Update on technical support for Article 6

In a recent newsletter, we invited expressions of interest for a new piloting initiative, under which projects will receive technical support on the authorisation of mitigation outcomes from activities under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

We are pleased to share that, after careful consideration, our implementing partner Perspectives Climate Group will be moving forward with three project developers over the next few months. These projects were chosen based on a number of factors, including project sector, geography, scale, maturity, experience and readiness of host countries. A public document to share key findings and lessons learned from this experience will be published to further support work by all project developers and interested stakeholders.

We would like to thank all organisations that expressed their interest in this initiative, and we regret that direct support can only be provided to a limited number of developers. For those project developers not selected for this pilot programme, we encourage you to consider the opportunity for capacity-building and knowledge-sharing shared below.

 NEW INITIATIVE

Platform for knowledge-sharing

Less than a year after the adoption of Article 6 rules at COP26, many project developers, understandably, still have questions about what the new rulebook means for them, and how engagement with host countries will work in practice.

In an effort to build understanding and enable proactive knowledge sharing, the Gold Standard Early Movers Programme is supporting the establishment of a new platform to facilitate the exchange of information and experiences amongst project developers on the development, financing, and implementation of new carbon market projects under Article 6. The platform will operate independently of Gold Standard to enable open discussion amongst project developers.

The platform will convene at least four informal meetings amongst interested project developers between September 2022 to March 2023, and will discuss topics from early experiences of project development under Article 6 to opportunities in this new context and approaches to overcome barriers.

To express interest in participating, please subscribe below. For any questions or to propose topics for discussion, please contact Florian Eickhold, who will be coordinating this platform.

VALUING ARTICLE 6 CREDITS:
HOW THE VALUE OF ARTICLE 6 CREDITS MAY EVOLVE AND WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE MARKET

The past few years have seen greater transparency than ever before on prices in the carbon market. But how might the market value credits authorised under Article 6, and how might this compare to unauthorised credits? This webinar will explore this question with a panel of market experts.
