Reports on country preparations and supporting authorisation of Article 6 under Paris Agreement

We are pleased to share the latest updates and resources from our work to support the implementation of Article 6 and to enable Gold Standard users and partners to move early in its adoption.
This edition includes two new reports on Article 6 global developments co-developed by Gold Standard, the recording of a recent webinar on the first eighteen months following the adoption of Article 6, and news about the Gold Standard Conference 2023.

If you have any feedback or would like to speak with Gold Standard directly about Article 6 activities, please email

Implementing Article 6: An Overview of Preparations in Selected Countries

Prepared by Gold Standard and adelphi, this new report presents information on the latest status of Article 6 preparations in 20 countries as of April 2023. The countries studied are among the most important past suppliers of carbon credits, and most host significant numbers of certified Gold Standard activities.
Detailed factsheets summarise preparations in each featured country, showing that preparations to implement Article 6 are progressing in a wide variety of countries, with a significant geographical diversity.

Supporting authorisations under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: Lessons learned and key considerations

Under Gold Standard’s Article 6 Early Mover Programme, Perspectives Climate Group GmbH, and Atlas Environmental Law Advisory were asked to lead a piloting initiative through the second half of 2022, supporting a small group of activity developers in the process of preparing for authorisations under Article 6.2. This initiative was intended to build capacity on the part of both the project developer and the host country, as well as to identify lessons and trends that could inform future implementation of Article 6.
This report highlights lessons learned and best practice actions identified through the piloting initiative, as well as providing an overview of the key elements, processes, and considerations relevant to authorisation, and an analysis of the various actors and processes that shape the dynamic landscape of market-based cooperation under Article 6.

First Eighteen Months: Reflections and Experience from Initial Efforts to Implement Article 6

Following the adoption of Article 6 rules at COP26, Gold Standard and partners - with funding from the German Government - have supported early efforts to implement Article 6 through piloting, knowledge-sharing among project developers, and mapping the state of Article 6 preparations in major markets across the world.

In this webinar, we will hear reflections and experiences from experts involved in this work, identifying lessons and recommendations to inform future implementation.

RECORDED 9 May 2023

The Grow to Zero conference will take place from 26-27 June 2023, during London Climate Action Week, in the heart of the city at Kings Place.

The two-day event is designed to inform and engage a wide range of participants including project developers, fund managers and impact investors, government representatives and corporate sustainability professionals. With a variety of session formats including panels, workshops, breakouts, and many networking opportunities, it is bound to create important connections and instigate growth towards net-zero.

We will hold one particular session related to Article 6 and the voluntary carbon market which may be of particular interest to you.

Navigating Article 6 + VCM

The rulebook for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, adopted in Glasgow in 2021, provides a route for companies in the voluntary carbon market to use correspondingly adjusted credits towards their climate claims. But the path forward is still not clear: are countries ready and willing to apply corresponding adjustments for the voluntary carbon market? (When) should companies be using adjusted credits? And what are the wider implications of Article 6 for the functioning of the voluntary market?

In this workshop we will be navigating these questions, with guiding remarks from expert speakers.
