In today's Digest, we take you to the banks of the Senegal River where IOM supports the preparedness and response efforts of the Senegalese and Mauritanian border authorities and communities in the time of the COVID-19. The newly published IOM reintegration counselling guide describes the necessary psychosocial approach to better support returnees' reintegration. In Burkina Faso, we meet Said, a returnee who wants to use art to reintegrate within and contribute to his community's economic development. In Côte d'Ivoire, Nabintou, a returnee, faces the first challenges of his reintegration during the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. In Niger, Yoro, a psychologist in Niamey's transit centre, tells us how IOM swiftly adapted its strategy to sensitization and psychoeducation of migrants and communities. The EUTF 2019 annual report gives us an overview of the achievement of the EU-IOM Joint Initiative in the Sahel and Lake Chad. Finally, we will be sharing every week a series of good, innovative and promising practices in the reintegration assistance for returnees, stay tuned! The Counselling guide is provides key information on the importance of a psychosocial approach to post-arrival reintegration counselling, describing the basic counselling and communication skills necessary to conduct a successful and psychologically informed reintegration counselling interview with a returnee.

Cash-for-Work in Guinea

As of mid-July 2018, 452 individuals were included in cash for work activities in Conakry. Benefitting both returnees and community members, this initiative has provided them with cash support while at the same time improving the living conditions in the communities of return.
