Weekly Principal Update

July 7th, 2020

July 7th, 2020

Dear School Families,
It is so good to be in the warm sun, outdoors with family and friends again - with appropriate precautions of course! My family and I returned from Yellowstone National Park this last week and it is something that I will never forget. We have such a beautiful country and it was a gift to explore it with my family this summer. I hope that each of you has also been able to enjoy a small piece of our beautiful outdoors these last few weeks.

On June 22nd, Bishop Ricken announced:
It is with great excitement and an eye on health and safety, that the Diocese of Green Bay is pleased to inform you that all of our Catholic schools will be open this fall for in-person classes.

Attached to this newsletter is a copy of Bishop Ricken's letter and President, Kimberly Desotell's letter outlining the plans for opening this fall. Additionally, we are busy as a group of educators here at St. Bernard School, planning for the opening of our school. We have a Reentry Planning Team representative of each area of our building's operation. This team and I are reviewing the following:

*Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
*Social Distancing and Hallway Traffic Patterns
*Scheduling and Teacher/Student Movement
*PPE and Other Supplies (masks/shields,etc.)
*Hygiene Training for Teachers and Students
*Lunchroom and Recess Procedures
*Visitor and Nonessential Person Restrictions
*Health Monitoring and Screening of Students and Staff
*Routine Cleaning and Disinfecting

Education, faith development and social/emotional supports are also being addressed simultaneously with the health and safety areas by the team.

You will receive weekly updates from GRACE regarding our progress in all of these areas beginning in mid-July. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue our work to welcome your children back in Fall.

If you are interested in helping Mrs. DeCleene, she is working with a small group of people to collect and distribute groceries to families in our community. Please reach out to her at She has truly been an inspiration during this time. Thank you to her children, family, and friends for being the hands and feet of Christ.

Be the Light!

It is our intention to have Mass in some capacity for our students. The logistics of this is still being discussed. However, please plan to have a Mass Uniform as it will be a part of our faith life here at SBS. As a reminder, this year 20-21 will be our last year with Navy Blue uniform pieces. Links to places you can purchase uniforms are listed here.

MASKS/SHIELDS - We are still working on exactly which one and when. However, you can count on the fact that students will have to wear masks in some capacity during the school day. Once we have the specifics, we will send them out because some question as to masks v shields in the classroom are still being researched.

MASK GUIDELINES - Right now we don't have specifics, however we are looking at the variety of masks on the market and the types of accommodations (such as hats/visors, etc.) that we may need to make for students. In the meantime, families can safely purchase/make traditional masks that tie or have elastic loops. PLEASE KEEP IMAGES ON MASKS CHRISTIAN/KIND. There are lots of masks out there with monster faces, etc. As long as your child's mask is free from angry looking creatures or unChristian messages/slogans/products you will be fine.
